Dear Shoe Manufacturers....

I received the Fall Nordstrom catalog in my mailbox today and am dismayed to see mostly platform 4" heels.  I know it's unbelieveable, but some of us ar 5'10" and have no desire to stand nearly 6'4" with our shoes on.  Can we perhaps find a happy medium between the funky, fashion-forward platform heels and frumpy old lady pumps?

Sincerely,

Hates Towering Over Everyone

Grrrrrr!  In all seriousness, I don't mind being tall, I rather enjoy it, but I have to draw the line at platform heels.  They're adorable, but to be taller than my 6'2" husband just doesn't set well with me.  SO.FRUSTRATED.

Re: Dear Shoe Manufacturers....

  • I am totally with you on this!  I'm 5'11'' and I love wearing heels, but they make me tall enough.  I do not need a clunky 1-2" platform under the ball of my foot.  Unless the platform is made of some shock-absorbing material to make it feel like I'm walking on a cloud.  And I'm pretty sure it's not.

    Also: stop with the Gladiators!

  • Haha!  I have the total OPPOSITE problem.  I'm all of 5' 1/2", but honestly, I still don't love heals.  They just aren't comfortable, usually.  And I don't mind looking tiny next to my hubby or anyone else for that matter.  I used to hate it, but I've grown to love it.

  • I am righ there with you!  I am 5'9" and DH is 6'3" so I can get away with some high heels, but my feet hate me when I do that.  3" or less is best for me and for everyday I say 2" or less, thank you!  Now that I am KU I am more 0.5-1.5" or else I feel unstable!  LOL!

Am I the only one who's noticed that many high-end shoe designers are men?!?!  WTF?  They don't have to walk around on their toenails all day...yet they think we should and want to?  UGH.  Please make some stylish shoes that are comfortable.  Most of the time comfort=FUGLY!

  • Hehe, yeah, I'm 5'8" and DH is 6'8" so any height of heels still puts me way shorter than him =P

Although, my knees are starting to hurt whenever I switch to flats =/ I think high heels have given me pretty bad knees =( I'm trying to get used to flats now though since like Lori, I may hafta make the switch eventually now that I'm ku too =]

  • I am one of those who bought into the higher the better.  Now I'm paying for it and must deal with possible surgery on my foot for a bone growth due to walking on my tippy toes.  I have been trying to make the switch to shorter heel shoes....but yes comfort=FUGLY!!!  I am now sporting the less frumpy ...more fashionable crocs even though I swore I would never wear them.
  • I was part of the "the higher, the better" crowd for ages...until I started working in a job where I'm on my feet for 90% of the day. Now I can't wear heels even when I want to - they hurt my feet! I've gotten so used to not wearing them (which is probably a good thing) that wearing heels is painful, even when it's only for a short period of time, like when we go out to dinner. Sad...
