DD is turning 2 in a few weeks and I'm on the hunt for a special birthday cake. ?I'm looking for a 2 tier cake with polka dots. ?I used to live in BR a few years back and ordered several cakes from Gambino's. ?I enjoyed their cake very much but I've never ordered a "specialty" type cake from them before so I'm not sure or confident about their cake decorating skills. ?When my husband and I were married there we had our cake done at a small bakery off of Coursey but it has since closed down. ?
If any of you guys know of a good bakery with cool cake decorating skills, please let me know. ?I've heard of Baum's and Ambrosia's but never had their cakes or been in their bakeries. ?If you know of any other places that I haven't named, tell me what you know. ?I'm gonna be back in Louisiana in a few weeks and can take care of the order then. ?Thanks in advance for your help!?
Re: Looking for birthday cake
Gambino's will do an excellent job. I've gotten cakes from them before and have never been disappointed.
Ambrosia will also do a good job but they've gotten a little cocky lately. And pricey. But their cakes are awesome.
Baum's has great petit fours but I've never had their cake. My friend used to work there and she always said they did a good job on things.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of these!

Another vote for Cake Goddess!
DH had a cake from them the other day and it tasted great and looked adorable!I'm originally from Louisiana; went to Southern AND LSU. ?DH went to LSU. ?We moved to TX for a few years--he received his MBA and then we relocated BACK to BR after he was promoted. ?Was married there and lived there for 3 years. ?LOVED every minute of it and was devestated when we moved to California for another promotion. ?I miss BR SO much and always look forward to going home to Louisiana for visits. ?I don't visit as much as I used to because since we've been here my daughter was born and traveling with a (almost) 2 year old can be a little bit difficult!
?
But I miss home and can't wait to get closer. ?We are planning a move to Austin, TX which will likely be our last and final stop. ?But I am hoping to have enough $$ within a few years to have a 2nd home in BR--that way we can come down for SU and LSU Homecomings and not have to worry about finding a hotel!
Thanks for ALL of you guys' info. ?I will check into Cake Goddess, ASAP!?
