You may recall that, awhile back, I posted about fundraising for the CIBC Run for the Cure. I asked my family (aunts/uncles/cousins/spouses) to get back to me regarding whether or not they would be open to doing the walk and whether or not thwey would like to register as a team, who they'd like to include, and fundraising ideas (if they wanted to do that). I thought it was especially important since our grandmother died of breast cancer, and many of my relatives give lip service to wanting to do something in memory of her.
Well, 5 months later, only 7 people have gotten back to me at all. Thankfully, those 7 are eager to participate. This is out of 14 aunts/uncles, 15 grandchildren and their spouses! SHAMEFUL! I had hoped to get a much more enthousisatic response that would have allowed us to fundraise as a team and pool our energy and resources, but it's a tad late now to get started on that (being that the walk is on Oct 4th).
I honestly am disgusted with them. My mother is participating, even though she has no fukking toes and is missing half of her left foot!! Seriously! She is still recovering from her surgeries and she's making an effort to do it!
I sent a reminder email this morning, hoping to guilt a few more into doing it...we'll see what happens.
Re: I can't believe my family is being like this
That's frustrating that your family isn't as willing as they seemed to be about making the effort.
Numbers are down across the board this year with the Run as was expected, given the economy this year. Even if it's just you and your mom - your site will be glad to have you there. The Run is an amazing experience no matter how you participate!
That truly is disappointing, Mel.
Good for your mom, sounds like she is driven, just like you.
