AW: Nursery Update

So far we?ve purchased the furniture (gifted by both grandparents) I?m very excited! Thanks Mrs_Sarah for the referral we couldn?t find a better deal and Andrea is so nice. We?re also getting the glider & ottoman but I can?t find a pics of it. http://tinyurl.com/npjb45 and http://tinyurl.com/m5ogxk

I think this is the bedding we?re going with for the nursery. I wanted a little less purple and more green but all-in-all I?m pretty happy with it.

Even better is that it?s at Wal-Mart for $74 ? it?s a 4pc bedding set. At Babies?r?us the bedding I liked but wasn?t thrilled with was for $189 for a 3pc set!!!

The part that sucks is that Wal-Mart isn?t doing baby registry anymore. They said that the system they used before went out of business so they?re trying to find a new company, until then they aren?t doing anything.

We?ve decided that we?ll put up the chair rail and from that part down will be all white and the top half will be a light shade of pink.

Now to find the white chandelier, window treatment, rug, shelf, ?Princess Netting?, put up the chair rail & boxes, paint the room, assemble the furniture & get a little side table for near the glider and....... YA! LOL

Re: AW: Nursery Update

  • Wow, everything looks like it's coming together nicely! How exciting :)
  • Sounds awesome!

I have a suggestion for the white part of your walls.  We used Debbie Travis Paintable Wallpaper for the bottom half of the walls (it is white, but we also painted it white for a brighter white).  We got one that big dots on it, so it looks pretty cute (especially since our nursery is so modern).  The dots are white also, but the are raised, so it is just a subtle look.  Here is a link to see what it looks like.

Anyways, just an idea if you wanted to do anything extra on the bottom.

  • That sounds awesome, Lisa!

I was wondering if you had considered switching the position of the colours.

I think that when you paint a room in two colours, it tends to work best if the lighter colour is in the top.  It seems to ground the room more if the darker is below the chair rail.  Either way, I'm sure it will look great.

  • Hummm both really good suggestions!

I like the 'raised wallpaper' design idea...to give it a bit more of a personality!

And the colour swap too....ok I'm going to drive DH crazy with ideas tonight!

    Thanks ladies!

  • But if you're doing wallpaper - whatever colour you choose, definitely do it on the bottom.
  • The colour swap would wear better too. The white on the bottom may get really dirty and scuffy and require more "maintenance".
  • Everything is looking great. I love the bedding.

  • I love what you have chosen it's all so pretty!

In addition to the colour swap idea I have another suggestion. ?Either paint the chair rail a darker pink than the one you choose but keep it in the same family, or make it a different colour altogether ?(maybe pull from your bedding). ?I have two reasons for saying this. ?

    1) the furniture you have chosen is quite dark (though gorgeous) and the bedding quite bright (also gorgeous. BTW Wal-Mart has rugs that match that bedding, DD has them in her bedroom) and you might find that your walls look a little too washed out in comparison.

    2) added visual stimulation for your baby! ?DD loves to touch the different colours in her room and she often talks to the focal wall that has all the squares on it.?
