Start spreadin the news... NYC, here we come :)
Woohooo... DH and I are going to New York for my birthday! Now I just need to plan everything. I have almost three months to book everything, which should be more than enough.
So I need hotel, restaurant and show recs please!! DH has never been so I really want to expose him to the city.
TIA!
Re: Start spreadin the news... NYC, here we come :)
Yayyy! When are you going?
I am in the midst of planning a bachelorette party trip to NYC. I called a zillion hotels.
Hotel: I got a great deal at the Doubletree in Chelsea but in my case I needed 3 rooms with double beds in each room so that was the best hotel for the price I was looking for.
Try to stay near Times Square if possible. Ive stayed in that area before and its the easiest for cabs etc. Mariott Marquis is pricey but its a great hotel. They have specials so just check often. My friend stayed at OnTheAve Hotel recently and she got a great deal and said it was great.
Show: You MUST see In the Heights. I haven't actually seen it yet but I have the soundtrack and its amazing. Wicked is great as well if you havent seen it.
There is so much to do you will have a great time! Good Luck!
Those two shows are actually at the top of my list! I'm going to see if I can get tix
I'd really like to stay in Times Square but the hotels are soooo expensive. We'll either stay there, in Midtown or in Chelsea. We're going December 11-14. I can't wait to see the tree and go shopping!
That sounds like soooo much fun! Congrats!
There's just so much to do, definetly catch a show, hit a museum, check out Central Park. If your up for some shopping, please please pretty please visit Top Shop. It's the first one in the U.S and I am dying to go! Take lots of pics! Also, hit H&M, its awesome and they don't have any down here or online. If you like vintage stuff, I've heard via here that Buffalo Exchange and Beacon's Closet are great places to go.
I've never stayed in the city, but I would LOVE to stay at The Library one day. It just looks so stinkin' cool. The rooms are numbered via the Dewi Decimal System and all the floors are categorized by subject. Each room themed around that subject. So for instance, the floor dealing with love and romance would have rooms based around that. Then the rooms are filled with books on that subject. So cool. They also include breakfast and a wine and cheese thingy in the afternoon.
Oh, and grab a Grey's Papaya Hot Dog with Papaya juice!
Have you tried going through a travel agent? Sometimes they have great deals. I use Liberty Travel, they've been great.
Those are all great tips! Thank you so much. I am going to check out all of the links.
And after DH talked to work, I literally just got a call that we have to change the dates to Jan 2-6. Boo. Oh well, at least the tree will still be up!
That's awesome, Eli! I love NYC.
We stayed at the Radisson on Lexington. It was very nice and central. Some restaurants to try are Blue Ribbon for sushi, AJ Maxwell's Steakhouse, and the Petrossian.
From the shows playing now, I recommend: Wicked (of course), Avenue Q, and Chicago.
That's awesome
I
NY! Too bad "Avenue Q" is going off Broadway this week... it would've been a great show for you to see... it's HILARIOUS!!!!
When I went to NYC years ago, I saw Les Miserables and Cabaret. Cabaret was feating Molly Ringwald, and was fantastic!!!!!!!!!! Les Mis was, of course, wonderful as well. If you can catch an Opera at the Met (Metropolitan Opera House). I would HIGHLY recommend it... On the days that you'll be there, they are showing "The Tales of Hoffman", "Turandot" and "Carmen", all GREAT shows!
How exciting! DH and I are hoping to TRY and head up to NYC for at least a Weekend in December... I will be going up for Auditions in Nov/Dec... but it's just not the same...
GL planning!
Eli - that is true watch out NY!!!
I haven't been there in a few years, but just wanted to say that I hope you have an awesome time planning your trip and an even better time once you are there. Jan is a beautiful time to go, and like you said, the tree will still be up!!
Like Jeni said, check out In the Heights - they will be here next year and I am dying to go see it... I think it's also that dominican side in me that is dying to see it.
There are always a lot of shows, I know that Karen saw Wicked and she loved it. You might want to consider that one...
Isn't it awesome to plan a vacation?
