Hunter was born on 8/29/09 at 12:39am; 6lbs., 9oz. and 20 inches. I went to the hospital Friday afternoon to get assessed, thinking that my fluid was leaking (I started to lose my mucus plug on Wed at 10pm and had mild cramplike contractions every hour, 2 hours, etc. on Thursday and Friday. Friday during the day they were still about 30 min apart)... They were going to let me go home cause everything was fine, but I had been there for 2 hours or so and was probably dehydrated and my contractions were coming closer so the doctor admitted me. She broke my water and they gave me something to "take the edge off" - can't remember the name, but it made the really bad contractions a little less painful. Then an hour later they gave me pitocin cause I had only dilated one addtl cm - you know how doctors are. After that I dilated pretty quickly and was pushing by about 11:30pm. I requested a mirror and that really helped as far as staying focused and pushing even harder when I needed to. The midwife in my doctor's office was the one on call and there were 3 other female nurses in the room - all cheering me on - it was great! My sister and my DH were there too.
The experience was wonderful. We finally went home Wednesday night and had to keep him on a bilirubin blanket (I was discharged on Monday but he was in the NICU because of jaundice and his numbers were really high). I'm happy to report that as of Sunday morning his bilirubin numbers were back to normal and we were able to take him off the bili light blanket. DH and I are totally gaga over him :-)
