:: adpi sarah :: LONG work vent!

Okay, here's one for you!

There's a guy in my company who determines pricing for certain items, and it's my job to load them into the system.  He's notorious for making mistakes in the pricing, and I tend to be the point of contact when they're discovered.

Today he gave me a bunch of profit % changes.   For some of the prices, I have to put in a dollar figure, not a profit %.  I told him, "Please send me the dollar amounts for these".

He walked over to my desk and went on for 5 minutes about how our costs might have changed since his update.  So the %'s are good, but he doesn't know if the prices are right anymore.  Okay, so recalculate them - it takes three minutes.

But refused to do it!  It was INFURIATING.  He just kept asking me what I needed from him, and I'd say "All I need are the prices!", and he'd repeat that they weren't any good.  Finally, he asked "Can't we just recalculate them from the margins and the current costs?"  Why, yes, WE can!  So you know what to do, after all!  I made him dance around it until he straight-out asked me to do it myself.

I'm not a petty person - but I was not about to volunteer for this!  He loves to use me as a buffer when things go wrong.  It's happened several times already... he's asked why something is wrong, and instead of admitting "I messed up", he forwards the question to me and says "What's the problem here?"!  Then after I confirm that he messed up, he follows up with his boss by explaining the error (without mentioning that it was his error).

Everybody sees what he's doing... but it's still annoying to be sort-of blamed for things that aren't my fault.  The most frustrating part is that, even though I don't work directly for this guy, I can't tell him no because he's like 6 ranks above me.  Grrrrrrrr!

/rant.  Back to our regularly scheduled fun board!

Sorry your co-working is such a jerk!  I hate when people don't own up to their mistakes.

  • So sorry you gotta deal with this.  I'm kinda knownas the quicker fixer upper at my job.  Anytime someone screws up, it gets put on my lap cause I'm good at figuring out how to fix it.  I guess in a way it's a compliment but I get so sick and tired of doing someone elses job.  And then on top of it I never get a thank you form the actual person that screwed up and of course they do it again cause they know oh Reese will fix it.  And it's always when the deadline was yesterday.  You just have to remember that no good dead goes unnoticed and like you said people see what he's doing and they also see that you do an awesome job!!!  Carma's a *** and he'll get his in the end :)
  • Oh my friend, you have made my day!  Thank you!  You know I enjoy hearing your work stories, thank you.

So my thoughts are this.........PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE

I hate that!  I dealt with almost the same exact story at my last job.  Except I was her supervisor and she couldn't handle the "criticism" coming from me.  I hired in after her and she was older than me, so I guess that meant she was entitled to feel above me.   Uh no!  I dealt with her behavior so many times where she would try and call me out in front of MY boss.  And finally, one time my boss told her to sit down and stop being a tattle tale.  Keep in mind this broad was 46.  LOL!  I was straight laughing, she got told to stop being a tattle tale!  That was so awesome to me.  Sadly, she was laid off months later, which was something I would have never wanted for her.  In fact, i had suggested we all start pitching in for some of our health care to assure that some employees kept their jobs.  I just never wanted her to be my employee!

OMG I was this person at my last job. Yeah it's a testament to your abilities, but it used to infuriate me!
