Anniversary weekend getaway?
DH and I are looking to go away for our anniversary in early October. We went on a mini-moon to Vermont, but the hotel we stayed at is too expensive on the weekends! I've heard of some nice places for foliage, apple picking, and things like that in upstate New York, Catskills, Berkshires, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations? We'd like it to be no more than a few hours away (3-4 max).
TIA!
Re: Anniversary weekend getaway?
For our one year anniversary (last October), we went to the Apple Valley Inn, a B&B. It is right outside of Warwick, NY. It is beautiful up there in the fall, and it just so happened that we were there the weekend of Warwick's Apple Fest. We went to a bunch of wineries, went hiking on the Appalachian trail, went to a few restaurants and enjoyed the B&B. I always recommend the Apple Valley Inn because it is amazing - the inn keepers are the nicest women you will EVER meet, the breakfast is amazing and the rooms are so cute and romantic (fireplaces in all of them!). And this is a great time of year to go, too. www.applevalleyinn.com
Also - it's only about a 2 hour drive from NYC.
i also love RI in the fall?
you could stay in providence, bristol, or newport and go apple picking nearby. sakonnet vineyards in little compton is lovely. i would have suggested our wedding venue in little compton because it was very quaint but it's now it has been revamped and the prices are insane

DH and I recently took a road trip to Maine and we stayed at the Inn At St. John, a lovely New England charmed place located in downtown Portland. Although Maine is a five hour drive, it's a quick plane ride from LGA or JFK. DH and I loved it there and recommend to anyone looking for a nice romantic getaway
