At least 12 more weeks of bedrest :(

I finally saw my OB today.  I was supposed to go yesterday, but ended up in the hospital after losing a piece of my mucus plug and having some cramping.

I don't really have any answers, no one really knows what's going on, but for now my cervix is closed, and that's a good thing.

I'm switching to her high risk clinic at the hospital and will ultrasounds every week or every other week, depending on how things go.

At this point, she said she'll reevaluate at 34 weeks, which is the end of November.

So for now, I sit and wait.

  • Aw man...I know it not the exact answer you were looking for but your cervix being still closed is very good news!!!

Lets just hope that it stays closed...and who cares if that means bedrest, right? Wink

Have any ideas of what to do to pass the time by? time

  • oh jeez! they are just not letting you off easy huh? Stay inside your mama, baby Gavin! Good luck getting through the new few weeks!!
  • Sending you lots of Fort Knox dust.
  • OMGosh, stay in there baby Gavin, mommy isn't ready for your to come out yet!

Hang in there Amy, I know how hard bedrest can be.

Proud Mama to two sweet kiddos.
  • That's a long time to be laid up! I'm sorry you can't be up and around...but it's all for the babe!  I am new to this stuff, but I *know* that a closed cervix is a GOOD thing! lol Soooo, your next US is next week?
  • I'm sorry..that's probably not what you wanted to hear. Good new about the cervix being closed though! Thinking of you and sending lots of good positive vibes your way to help you get through the next three months of bedrest. :-)
  • Sorry you have to stay on bed rest but it's good that your cervix is closed. Crossing my fingers that baby Gavin stays in there.

  • Oh no, what shittay news Amy. I'm sorry.

What exactly does being on bed rest mean though? I'm assuming you're definitely off work, but do you actually have to be in bed? Can you at least hang around other parts of your house?

And do you have to start your mat leave now? Or does this count as sick leave from work? Do you get paid from your job at all while you're off? 12 weeks of unplanned loss of income is no fun in anyone's books.

On a bed rest note - do you have a laptop and wireless so you can stay entertained with the internet during the day? And if you haven't seen them, I highly recommend filling at least some of your days with the following tv series.

24 (if you start from season 1 and go a season a week it will take you at least halfway through your bed rest), gossip girl, mad men, how i met your mother, and big bang theory.

  • I am so sorry about that but I know that its for the best.  Sounds like they are taking all precautions which is very good.  Hang in there!
  • Bad luck on the bedrest!  But that's great that your cervix is still closed and I hope that the time passes quickly.  The results will be so worth it!

I was told that I'm okay to shower, get up to get light meals (no real cooking), go to the bathroom etc.  Otherwise, I should be in bed or on  the couch.  My sister and BIL are coming this weekend to help D move some things around, so I have a bed, kitchen, TV and bathroom all on the same level.

I am allowed to work from home - I've been doing that for the past two weeks.  I talked to my boss and she's fine with it, but she's relatively new, so she wants to talk it over with the manager of HR.  And yes, my laptop and wireless are my saving graces.  Fingers crossed that will be okay.  Otherwise, I have 7 weeks of combined vacation and sick time that I'll use and then go on EI sick leave.  I believe it is different than mat leave, but there is a max that you can take before mat leave (I think - I can't remember the details).  Hopefully I won't need to use it.

Glad to hear that someone is coming to help Dave out. I had Adam on alert that he might be called to help move things around for you. I'm sure Chloe is loving having you home all the time though :)

  • lol, Sarah - Chloe is loving it, but HATES the laptop.  She pounces on me the minute I move it away.  Lap dog > Laptop.
  • Booo HISSSS.

I know it sucks, but we gotta keep Baby Gavin growing in there! Take care of yourself and if you need a visit from Dani and I, we'd be there in a heartbeat.

That's good you can work from home! I was wondering about that afterwards...

Hopefully the board will start to liven up so we can keep you entertained on the board with lots of random posts while you're stuck at home.

  • I'm sorry Amy. Sending you tons of positive vibes.
  • ah that sucks Amy... but it is for the best. Gavin needs to stay put! He's gotta grow big so he can play with my boys.
  • I'm sorry Amy. Bedrest sucks, it is very good news that your cervix is still closed, have they also checked by u/s to confirm this? Let me know if you need anything.

    Hey Angie.

The first two trips to the hospital I had internals. This last one, I asked for an u/s and after measuring my cervix at 3.77 (which is where it's been the entire pregnancy) they didn't do an internal.  I'm glad.  I know there are certain situations where it's necessary, but I couldn't help feel like 3 internals within 10 days would sort of disturb things.

How are you and Dylan doing? Have you got your professional pics back yet?

  • Sorry to hear about the bed rest. But it is good that your cervix is still closed, and that your Dr. seems to be quite on the ball with keeping an eye on things. Better to be safe. I'm sure that things will work out fine, I hope the time goes by quickly!
