ok, so the girls on the bump's baby name board never like any of my names . . . and while i do not expect you ladies to LOVE mine, maybe you'll be able to give me a little guidance (and not be like "what are you thinking!?") ![]()
i really like not-so-common names, maybe because my name is not so common . . . i could go into labor any minute, and we have always said we need to see her before she is named, but i am worried i will look at her and still not be able to decide. so i would appreciate your thoughts!
our top three first names are:
Ellery
Lucia
Ramsey
Ellery is my favorite, as it's the rarest of the 3, and she could go by Ellie, Ella or Elle, all of which are pretty popular though;
Lucia is MH's favorite (which i like, though i think Lucy is kind of popular, right?);
and Ramsey is a family name he loves as well.
middle names:
one will be either:
Kaihawanawana
Ka'imilani
Kaimaile
(all have special meanings, non lineage names, etc. i am still waiting on a family kupuna to bless the name) which do you like?
a second middle name would be Elsie (for my great-grandmother) or Ramsey (for MH's family)
our last name starts with B and ends in "wood"--pretty strong-sounding name.
so . . .thoughts?! mahalo!
Re: baby girl name help?!
Love Ellery and am ok with Lucia. Not a fan of Ramsey at all for a first name (can you imagine the crude jr. high jokes?) - sry!
Either of the last two middle names. First one is a bit of a mouthfull!
I really like Ellery Ka'imilani (I think they sound really lovely together) then Ramsey for the 2nd middle name
just my thoughts!
I love Hawaii!

Wow!!! I didn't realize how close you were to your due date. How have you been feeling?
I am totally with you on Ellery! Lucia is nice too, but when shortened, to Lucy, just doesn't have the same feel.
My vote would be Ellery Ka'imilani
Hi Britt! You're so close!
Please don't hate me and I don't mean this in any bad way, but, to be 100% honest, when I read "Ellery", the first thing that came to my mind was "celery".
Yes, I'm weird like that.
So, I must say that my favorite name is Lucia. I really don't have an opinion about the Hawaiian name since the meaning of the name would mean more to me than how it looks or sounds. I love Elsie for a 2nd middle name.
GL and let us know which one you go with!
I was thinking the same thing, sorry
I love Hawaii!

Hey Tara! I guess you're just as weird as I am.
Maybe we have WW and "filling foods" on our minds?
Love Ellery! Ellery Kaimaile would be my pick!
Ramsey, to me, is not a great first name. Lucia is okay, but will you pronounce it Loo-chee-a or Loo-see-a? I prefer the first pronuciation, personally.

If you love it, go with it.
I agree!
I totally love the name Elle though... I can't imagine how difficult this decision is
I love Hawaii!

Lucia Ka'imilani Elsie B-wood. Or even Lucia Ka'imilani Ramsey B-wood works.
As much as I'm liking the name Ellery, I think I'm with Nicole & Tara. I'm thinking of her as an adult saying "Oh... haha... "Ellery Celery..." yeah... never heard that one before" Sorry... But if you're loving it, you should go for it. I really do LOVE the name/nickname Ellie, though!
Ahhh! You're due so soon =] Must be exciting!! Lots of vibes your way!
Cute names
I like Ellery and Lucia best for the first name, and then Ka'imilani and Kaimaile best for the middle name. But I'm sure whatever you both end up deciding will be beautiful for your baby girl
I bet you are getting so anxious for your baby girl!
I really like Ramsey Kaimaile the best:-) Good luck..I am sure once you lay eyes on her you will know what to name her.
The most important thing is that you and your husband like the name.
I'll tell you the things that my mom told me to consider. Mama knows best, right?
1) Is the name hard for a kid to pronounce? For instance, my brother was Keith... which he and all of the other kids said as "Keef". I noticed there are lots of kids that you can't understand. I'm still convinced that my daughter's preschool friend's name is MooShaSha... b/c that's what she and all of her friends called her.
2) Is the name confused with similar names? Dana, Danna, Diana, Donna. Kylie, Kyla, Kayla, Kara. I really liked Malina. My mom asked why I didn't just pick Melissa. haha! Then, she said it was too much like Melinda.
3) Will people know when they read your child's name if it is a boy or a girl? I'm a photographer and sometimes schedule people who have a gender neutral name... I don't know if I should expect a boy or a girl to show up.
4) Can your child find her name printed on things? My mom thought it meant something to a kid to find their name in a gift shop. You know the junk like key chains, stationary, shirts, stamps, etc with names.
My personal opinion...
I love Ka'imilani. Would you consider that for a first name?
I have never heard Ellery before, so would not know if that was a girl or boy. On one hand, I think of Hillary... on the other of Elroy.
Ramsey reminds me of Jon Bonet Ramsey... sorry, I know that's horrible... just the only time I've heard it... and there was so much media coverage. Your girl is growing up in a time where no one will know what that was about, so I'm sure it's fine.
Lucia is good.
Newlyweds since 2007
I love Ellery - it's my favorite of your names by far! Interesting and slightly unusual, but not weird or tease-able, if you know what I mean.
Lucia surprised me, mostly because you like not-so-common names and this one is becoming pretty popular. For that reason, I don't think I'd choose it.
Ramsey...it's OK. For some reason, I'd assume it was a boy. I think it would work better as a middle name.
All together, I think that Ellery Kaimaile Ramsey Yourlastname would be lovely!
I like Lucia Ka'imilani. Lucy is kind of popular these days but I only know of one baby recently named Lucy. The name Ellery reminds me of someone that my BFF used to talk about in HS and it was a guy. But I like Ellie, that's my dog's name. Haha.
I love the name Ellery too. And like Lisa, I didn't even think of celery. Which is surprising because I noramlly associate baby names with things they could be teased with. And I'm a total food gal, so go figure! I think Ellery sounds very regal.
BTW- If Ellery Celery is the worst she'd be called, she's good to go. I think it's actually kinda cute...does that make me weird?
Lucia is a fav of mine (loo-chee-a is my fav pronuciation), but I also really like Ellery & Ramsey. I think regardless of the name, kids are going to mispronounce and make fun of names. That is just kids. And I think uncommon names are the norm now so there is likely to be a lot of kids with unusual names in your girl's classes.
As for the middle name, I agree with Nicole, I would choose a name more b/c of the meaning than for actual name.
Hope this helps!! and good luck!!
I love Lucia (loo-sha). I worked with a girl by that name and thought it was the coolest thing! And then I went to St Lucia, and that's beautiful too!
I didn't realize it was becoming a popular name, but you don't have to call her Lucy either - the girl I know didn't shorten hers at all.
Ramsey seems like a boy name to me too, and being a former teacher, I can only imagine the jokes/ridicule she'd take for it.... not to mention it brings to mind Jon Benet Ramsey for some reason at first glance...
I think you should go with what you love though! I love the Hawaiian names too (although I have no idea how to pronounce them).
Cerclage placed @ 21w6d due to CI (IC)
My vote is for Ellery or Lucia. Both are beautiful names for a little girl and woman!
We're waiting to meet our little one till we make the final decision as well, so I hope that once you meet her choosing the name is easy!!
Married Bio
thank you so much for the thoughtful input!!
Ellery--redshoegirl, someone mentioned Ellery Queen to me too, and that's the only instance i've heard the name. and yes i agree, it sounds more feminine than masculine to me!
Lucia--so interesting the pronunciations you guys came up with; i hadn't thought of it any other way but Lu-see-ah. hmm . . .
Ramsay . . . actually with an A instead of an E . . . i never thought of Jon Bonet! there was a girl at my school that graduated last year named Ramsay, and i thought it so fit her as a girl. but i can see everyone's point about teasing!
thanks girls, this helps! sunday is 40 weeks . . . we'll see what happens!
