Holy crud

I am looking at the private school directory on BR Parents right now.

The tuition for Episcopal ranges between $9140-14050 per year, per child.  They do not offer a family discount.  My boss sends his 2 kids there.

He must love his kids more than I love mine b/c that is seriously ridiculous.

Re: Holy crud

  • Oh yeah, ridiculously expensive. Plus, you have to buy the textbooks.

A friend of mine is a teacher at Dunham. PreK starts at 10k there....OMG.

  • yeah...its insanely high.

i looked into MBS and St. George for Jonathan when he started K but that got put on the back burner because i got pg that year and knew i was going to have to pay daycare on top of school and just couldn't do it.

thankfully we have lucked out and are in a brand new school!

  • That is why my children will proudly go to public school.
  • Dude, I am so opening a private school in my next life.

$10k is ridiculous as well.  However, our original daycare choice would be $7200/yr.  Apparently, we'll be selling our kidneys just so my kid can have adequate caretakers.

  • I am seriously about to have a stroke.  I really want my kids to go to Catholic/St. Joe's but OMG!  Screw saving for their college.  We're going to have to start saving for their high school!

  • I am glad I am in the St. Tammany district, the schools here are really good. Now that I am pg, St. Tammany is looking like a great place to raise a family.

Daycare is ridiculously expensive too. I don't even want to talk about how much stupid day care costs.

I recently looked at the cost of St. Joe's, it is 2x more expensive than it was when I graduated from there. CHS is expensive, but nowhere near The Academy.

  • I didn't even realize that.  It's like a $2k difference!

    Dear Lord,

Please let me have a boy.  Apparently they are more affordable.

  • They're less expensive, until it comes to car insurance. The amount of car insurance for a boy is ridiculous...can't win with either sex lol

  • i just calculated and this year just for DD it is $6240 for the year.

DS goes there for before and after care and Aug to Dec is $1900.

but, in the long run, i think positive and know that my baby is in good hands and is very loved.

  • This is why I'm not working.  When you factor in daycare and random work costs that you always run into (lunch out, clothes for work, office birthdays, weddings, etc) it calculated that I would be making like $2 an hour!

Check it out at this website:

Unless your kid goes to an out of state private college, most parents who keep their kids in private school feel like they get a raise when they start college.

  • Its so expensive, My parents sent me to catholic school when we lived in New Orleans because you really cant send your kid to public school they are so horrible. When we moved here I went to public school. I always wanted my Kids to go to catholic school because I was always mad at my parents for not finishing up my catholic education, but the way prices have went back it doesnt look possible plus on a good note St.tammany schools are wonderful.
  • i wanted to put DS in Catholic school too, since that is where i started out. but i guess things don't always go that way.

Ali~that is awesome about St Tammany schools.

and even though i might pay a lot for daycare, if i didn't work, i would have to give up all the luxuries that i love like my car and shopping when i want to. I know there are a lot of people who are oh so anti daycare, but they get so much socialization with other kids and DD amazes me every day with the new things she learns. she is so smart!

Shoe~dont fret, it will all work out right. It just seems so overwhelming now, but it always works out.

  • socialization is one thing that concerns me with E not in daycare, but we belong to a Mommy and Me group here that does different activities a few times a week and we go to story hour, so she does get that at least.

If I hadn't had the problems I did, I'd probably be working right now and E would be in daycare.  We hope to adopt someday but knowing that if that doesn't happen and E is going to be our only child, I want to enjoy every moment with her, not hear about it from someone else.

  • There are definitely pros and cons to the great SAHM v. daycare debate.  I agree that I'd love to spend every single moment with my LO but I also think socialization is really important.  In a perfect world, I could stay home for about a year to a year and a half and then send her to daycare.  But alas, my world is far from perfect.

I feel very fortunate that I'll be able to stay at home for 3-4 months.  Not many working moms have that choice.

Anyone else noticing I'm saying "her" a lot today.  Smile

I noticed!  Thinking a baby Shoe-a-holic is in your future?  I need to go buy E some black shoes to go with her dresses for this fall.  I want some Robeez I saw, I need to go to the stride rite outlet and see if they have them.

  • I fear for our budget if I birth a mini-me.  Which I really think I am.  I already have my eye on several pairs of patent mary janes along with several other pairs of adorable attire for her feet.

  • I really want to get these for E.  Robeez work best for her because she has incredibly fat feet and it's hard to get shoes to look right on her!

    I also really like these.

  • And she already has these, but in pink and white

I know, right?!  Did you see the boots yet?  Sooo cute!

Stride Rite outlet at Tanger sometimes has them on sale for like $9.99.  That's how much I paid for the pink and white ones.
