Coming out Monday....

Hi ladies,

So now that I have officially accepted the job in ABQ, I am driving out Monday- Wednesday to find a place to live! I have 3-4 places I have appointments to look at, and then I plan on doing some cruising around learning the area and possibly looking at places that I pass along the way. All the places I am looking at are around Nob Hill, downtown, or the NE Heights (?) area.....again it's hard to tell a lot from the internet so I can't wait to get out and actually see things in person!

Any places we should check out for dinner/drinks while I"m in town? I know I'll be able to see plenty once I move. We're staying at the Suburbran Extended Stay on Carlisle/Menaul....but I'm sure will be driving all over town!

 TIA!

  • What kind of food do you like?

Our newest rave is Cosmo Tapas (Central up near Washington in Upper Nob Hill). Very yummy food.  Great ambiance.  they often have live music, too. I don't know if they do lunch, but dinner is great.

Range Cafe (Menaul & just east of Unibersity) is a local institution.  Breakfast all day long, good lunch/dinner.

For sushi, Shogun (Central in Nob Hill), Sushi King (Downtown just west of the rail station), or Sushi Hana (Central and maybe 6th).  Or Samarai up in the Heights at Montgomery/Eubank. Sushi Hana also has amerasia for excellent Dim Sum

Stop by the Fronteir, just for the ambiance.  It's a total UNM dive, but the Elvis & John Wayne rooms rock.

Nob Hill Bar & Grill - haute cuisine

Yannis (Central in Nob Hill) and Opa bar - great Greek/Mediterranean

La Braissere provence (Central & Girard) - amazing French

Duran's (Old Town) for amazing green chile stew

High Noon (Old Town) - amazing game

Gold St Cafe (downtown) good New Mex

Asian Noodle Bowl (downtown) great pan Asian

Farina's (EDO - Central near Walter) AMAZING pizza

Artichoke Cafe (Central & Walter) - Italian high end

Ecco Gelato or Guiseppe Cafe (Nob Hill) great espressos and gelato

Daily Grind (Central near Broadway) - my favorite coffehouse.  I live fior their bakery.  GO sit in the back hidden courtyard.

Imbide (Nob Hill) - great bar, love the roof deck

O'Neals (Upper Nob Hill on Central) - great pub

Blackbird Buvette (Downtown) - great pub, excellent food

Actully, other than the Korean/sushi place , the take-out sushi place, Kellys, Ragin Shrimp on Central there isn't anyplace I hate in the Nob Hill/Downtown area.

  • OMG Flame thanks so much for all the recs!

I think we're definitely going to check out the Daily Grind, Artichoke Cafe, and Imbide.....the rest will have to wait till I am living there for real. I cannot wait!!

  • How long are you gonna be out there???? We will probably just miss each other! I'm land on Thursday for a few days to hopefully finalize some housing! Hope you have an amazing trip!
  • RN- Awww, I leave Wednesday! How funny- we'll just miss each other. You have to update us on the housing situation once you get out here.

I'm kinda bummed...the place I really really liked that I had scheduled to look at Tuesday was rented this morning :( I know there will be plenty more places, but it was still a disappointment!

  • What can I say.  I love food.  A hazard when your family has a long history of chefs of all kinds.

If you do Daily Grind, definitely go around the corner into their cool Plaza.  I think that little plaza is one of the most undescovered places in ABQ.
