Are you happy with your bank?

I was just (involuntarily) switched from Wamu to Chase and am not happy about it. Specifically because they consider cash deposits (made with a teller) and online transfers between linked accounts pending until the next business day. I never had this problem with Wamu. I want instant access to my cash! So I'm looking for a new bank. Does anyone have any recs?

Thanks!

Re: Are you happy with your bank?

  • did you ever try the cash deposits and such through the ATM? We switched from HSBC to Chase over a year ago - and honestly, I love Chase. Both are good banks, but I feel like chase was just a better fit. We never had a problem with online transfers between accounts. Even when I make a check deposit into the ATM on a Friday evening its always available on Saturday morning! I feel like with HSBC I always had to wait until Monday afternoon-Tuesday for a friday deposit.

I can't recommend any others - good banks are hard to find. good luck.

  • wait, both of the accounts are in the same bank?

I have Citibank and whenever I transfer between accounts the money is available immediately, also when I deposit my check (using the ATM) the money is available immediately.

Also, I recently had some unauthorized charges on my debit card and Citibank caught it immediately and called me, and helped me to get a new card and have the money replaced.  I would definitely recommend banking with Citibank.

  • I have a small account with Chase as well, but I never use it so I can't complain. Our mortgage is with them so it's kind of convenient for us to be able to handle everything right there.

I have my main acct with Bank of America (originally opened acct with BayBank, then BankBoston, then Fleet, and now BofA... so I know all too well about reincarnated bank accts).  I actually think they are a decent bank.  I can find branches just about everywhere I go, they are always great with customer service when I have needed it, I don't get charged for a checking acct (since I have direct deposit), and my money seems to be safe.

  • We use TD Bank (formally Commerce) and are very happy with them.  I never make cash deposits so I don't know what the deal with that is but, they have fantastic customer service.  I would look into them.

  • I think that Chase is still working out some kinks with the Wamu transitions.  I was a Wamu customer too and i still can't make a deposit into an ATM, i have to see a teller.  They told me that would last until the end of the year.  Maybe things will improve after that when the accounts are completely rolled over?  Good luck!  If you get frustrated I heard great things about TD Bank.
  • TD Bank/Commerce is AMAZING.  Customer service is incredible, open 7 days a week and check deposits are available almost immediately.  Highly recommend them.
  • I know this is an old post, but Amy - I just read your response and too funny that DH and I have the exact same set up...our mortgage is with Chase, our regular banking is with BofA (we started out with Fleet).

That's funny.  Ever funnier, we were originally with WaMu and then they denied our mortgage at the last minute (probably because they were about to go under).  We were then approved by Chase.   Go figure.
