Mommies ?

Can we talk about bottles? I'm hoping to breastfeed/pump and will need some, but have no idea what I should be looking for? Do I have to get the Medela ones for pumping or can I use any?

Which ones do you use and why or why not to use certains ones. I had no idea there were so many types out there!

Re: Mommies ?

  • I used the basic Gerber because they worked with the Medela pump and DS wouldn't take the Advent bottles or the Dr. Brown.

My best advice is to get one or two of a few different types as your LO may not take to the one that you decide to stock up on.

  • Lauren really liked the Dr. Brown's.  I have a Medela pump, but didn't use Medela bottles.  The pump will come with some containers for pumping, then I would just transfer to a Dr. Brown's bottle.

I had some Born Free as well, but Lauren didn't like them.

  • A friend of mine who is BF'ing uses the Born Free - it's all her kid likes!

I agree with getting 1 of each and trying them out..

  • I'm planning on breastfeeding, and pumping when necessary and I got a couple of the Born Free bottles. Hopefully they'll work fine!

  • You know how DD refused all bottles (gah).

We have Cicco, Playtex, Born Free, Gerber, Evenflow, Medela... she hates them all

She loves her sippy cup but we've had to function til 6 months with no bottle feedings. Twas very hard!

When she did take the bottle (the one and only weekend that she ever did go for it, when my appendix came out), she took the medela bottle like a pro.

  • We have a couple Adiri, Medela, Born Free and Dr. Browns. DS will take them all. I would suggest getting only one of a few different kinds to see what your LO will take. Then you can have someone run out for you to purchase a bunch of the ones you choose after the baby is born.
  • We tried so many different ones, the playtex drop in as well as playtex ventaire, the only thing I did find was taht he did nto like the standard size nipple, so we ended up getting the wide ones, which was recommended to me anyway since he was more likely to keep his latch better and switch between bottle and breast.

  • no real answers for you, Sarah. Noah never really took to the bottle... well, I never offered him one. Only a sippy cup, with different nipples. and even then, he only took it very few times.

I hope that your baby doesn't make you have to buy a whole whack load of bottles.

  • I mostly use the Medela ones that go with my pump. I also have a few Avent bottles and one glass Evenflo. DS takes any of them, but I wasn't really a fan of the Avent. I didn't like the shape, and the flow from the newborn nipple seemed too fast. If I were to buy more, I'd definitely stick to glass ones.

  • He likes Born Free. I only have 1 and find that is all I need. I store the milk in bags and then pour into the bottle when Joe does a feeding.
