Bissell can bite me! Vent

While I made up my mind about what kind of central vac I want (or if we'll get one) we bought a Bissell upright at WalMart on Aug 15/09. I used it less than 10 times, and the other day it started smoking, the beater bar stopped turning (it seems stuck - even though there was nothing holding it still), and flakes of black and clear platic started spewing out of the bottom of the vacuum! It still has suction, though. Weird.

I contact Bissell. Their website seems to be pretty well put together. BUT none of the "contact us" links work. I got all of my attempts returned to my hotmail address as 'undeliverable'. I fnally managed to get a message to them via another route and made them aware that none of their links work.

Their response to me has yet another link to view my question and their response and guess what...the link doesn't work! Ugh. So they send me another one, it works. Then they send me 2 more...and only one works! These guys are clowns. We have already replaced the Bissell with a Eureka. At this point they tell me they are sending me a new beater brush and belt...and I get the pleasure of fixing it myself! Nice. Then they tell me that if I want them to fix it for me I have to send the vacuum to them...at my cost! The thing would cost more to ship than it's worth!

At this point, I am simply fed up. If they won't replace it or fix it on their dime, I am gonna make them send me enough parts to get my money back! lol Beware of Bissell!

Edit: I forgeot to mention the best part: their email with the useless link says that if they do not hear back from me within a week, they will assume that the issue has been resolved. Uh...how am I supposed to respond? None of your friggin email addresses or links work!

  • Update: I just got off the phone with their contact centre...what a gong show! My incident # doesn't exist (even though they sent me 4 responses quoting it). The woman started asking me a bunch of idiotic irerelivant questions (obviously for statistical reasons: age, # of people in the houseold, etc). I cut her off and asked her couldn't I just give her my email address and the incident #. She sighed...yeh she sighed.. Then she starts this whole process over again, asking me what the problem is with my vacuum! Are you serious?! I told her that I was really irritated and frustrated, I told her the dude who had responded to my previous complaint was named Hal. Oooooh, then she miraculously finds it. Explains to me like I'm a child or an idiot that roller brush assemblies and belts are not usually covered but b/c the vacuum is so new they will send me a new brush and belt. I told her that Hal stated he was already doing that. She checks and, wouldn't you know it, they sent it to me on Friday! So I ask her what I should do if that doesn't solve the problem? Can I still quote the old (non existent) incident # or what? She then gives me the correct incident #. I can see how they got them confused (note the sarcasm). It's not 2588924...it's 6762370! WTF?! Morons.

  • Oh for heaven's sake.

    I swear a person has to choose a vacuum as carefully as she chooses a husband.  I researched for *months* this time around.  We spent a fortune, but I'm happy.  

    I wish you could just return it, get your money back, and start from scratch.
