Best Bottle to use during Breastfeeding???

I am having such a hard time figuring out the best bottle to use during breastfeeding. ?The First Years Breastflow bottle or Dr. Brown's?

Re: Best Bottle to use during Breastfeeding???

  • I used Dr. Browns with DD, but it's a PITA with all of the parts.  When we're ready for #2 I'm going to switch to Born Free wide neck bottles.  I also like the Advent bottles.
  • Thanks so much for your help. ?I suppose the only real way to find out is to just buy a few different kinds and try them out when the baby is born.
  • My kid never got on the bf bandwagon. But I've heard really good things about the MAM anti-colic bottle. It is supposed to have a special nip that simulates bfing. They sell them at BrU.

Or just buy one kind, but not a lot of them and then switch if it's not working.  Generally, If you introduce the bottle once BF'ing is established, but the baby is still very young, it shouldn't be a problem, regardless of the bottle type you try.  "specialty bottles" are a bigger issue for kids with reflux/spit up problems.  Just don't wait until you're 12 weeks in and about to return to work to try introducing a bottle!  (unless you're a big fan of stress and trauma)  I used to pump in the morning before DD woke up and would have DH feed DD with a bottle in the evening when she'd go on her nursing marathons.  It helped 1.  me get a break.  and 2. gave DH a chance to get some quality time with her and 3. got her used to getting milk from a bottle and a different person.

Then of course there's the BPA issue, look for BPA-free bottles to avoid getting a lecture on 'bad plastics' from your local "bottle nazi's"!
