Whew...our house appraisal came back.

After all is said and done, our new house finally has a "value". Not sticker price, mind you, but a real market value! I am beyond pleased. When the final bills were totalled, the appraisal came in more than $160k more than we paid...including the lot! I am breathing a huge sigh of relief. I was worried, with the drop in the market, that we'd get screwed. Ahhhhhhhhh, I can breath!

  • Wow!!!  That is incredible.  Did you do a lot of the work yourselves?
  • We did no work ourselves...none. When we looked at the value of "sweat equity" and the implications to some of the warranties and guarantees, we decided it wasn't worth it.
  • That's crazy! I have always heard that building your own house is a bit of a money pit. It makes me wonder how much our builder profitted from building our home (which we bought pre-construction) and whether or not we should have talked him down more, lol.

  • I was a super hard-a$$ about cost. We had our estimate high, so our upcharges were minimal. I also made sure I knew the cost of stuff...so I could fight (and did) with our contractor for a fair harge to us. I know he made money on us, but he certainly could have made more! lol
  • wow that's awesome news!! good job!
