Blackberry Tour v. iPhone
I have finally entered the world of smartphones. Took me long enough, I know.
The problem is that I have Verizon, whose service I really like. They offered to send me a Tour to try free. My other option is to cancel service, pay the small cancel fee, then go get an iPhone. I really like the iphones because they are so easy, but I wanted to give the Blackberry a try.
I know that people have strong opinions on Blackberry vs. iPhone. Let's hear yours! Also, is anyone familiar with the Tour?
Re: Blackberry Tour v. iPhone
iPhone hands down. I feel that the interface is so much more user friendly. And it's prettier. I love pretty.
The only downfall with the iPhone is it's so darn FRAGILE. I had the first generation and that thing was a tank. I feel the 3G and 3GS aren't as durable. My husband breaks his ALL. THE. TIME. I don't, but I am more careful...

Are you willing to sacrifice phone service quality over a phone. I've had almost every carrier you can imagine and Verizon hands down has the best service. I've hand friends switch out of an iphone to a BB.
Like many said the iPhone offers a lot of cool apps, but it's simply because Apple does a great job marketing their products. When in actuality other carriers have the same apps. For example the app that allows you to put your iPhone to any currently playing song and it tells you the name and who it's by, Verizon had that probably not first but diffanetly before Apple.
If you want a phone thats a status icon/trendy then go with the iPhone.
If you want a phone that actually works and does not drop calls stick with Verizon and get a BB.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy Apple products, I have an iPod, and an iMac, but first and foremost Apple is a computer company.
It's hard to compare Blackberry with the iPhone. They cater to completely different audiences. Blackberries are more business-oriented while iPhones are more consumer-oriented.
You need to consider, though, that many of the apps mentioned by members of the board as indispensable for the iPhone have equivalent apps for Blackberry, so you wouldn't exactly be missing out on a lot of the basic apps.
As another thought (sorry for further complicating things), don't forget to take a look at Android phones. Android is a new operating system for phones and mobile devices developed in a large part by Google. My wife has a MyTouch from T-Mobile, powered by Android, and it is fantastic. I take it from her to play with it every chance I get. I personally have a Blackberry Pearl Flip, and while it's alright I would love the added functionality that Android offers.
Not necessarily. It will vary from location to location. I had Verizon for over 10 years (even before they were called Verizon), and I always assumed they had the best coverage (and used to vouch for them like you). I decided to switch to AT&T at the beginning of this year because of the poor customer service I had received with Verizon, in addition to numerous dropped calls that had gotten out of hand. I have been thrilled with AT&T...their customer service in the store and over the phone is top notch, I have dropped maybe 2 calls since I got the service in January (which was nothing compared with the multiple dropped calls I received with Verizon on a daily or weekly basis), and I have and awesome iPhone.
Every city and state will be different. I'm sure there are places where Verizon rocks, and they used to here, but they don't anymore.
Exactly Melissa. I have had AT&T for over 10 years, and maybe dropped calls 5 times in that entire decade. I think I dropped one call on my iPhone, and I was driving through the Everglades at the time, so it wasn't exactly a surprise...
