My 16 yr old cat disappeared a couple of years ago and all that was left was a strip of fur (about 1 ft long and 1 inch wide) on the patio of my parents' house and her collar. No blood...but due to all the coyotes around here, the vet told us that he was almost certain it was a coyote.
Two nights ago I was driving up a very busy road and saw one crossing a busy road going over the mountain (5 lane road)...it walked across the road and down someone's driveway...I couldn't tell exactly what it walked across the road, but as I got closer, I looked down the driveway and it was a coyote.
Just saw on CNN that Jessica Simpson's dog was snatched by a coyote recently.

Yeah...worst part...I frequently hear them howling from the nature preserve near my house (it's about 1/2 mile away).
I would never let Cami out after dark if we didn't have a fenced in yard.
I read about Jessica's dog tis morning too. That must have been AWFUL to see it grab her dog. It's sad but at the same time, the animal is only acting on it's instinct. It has a lot to do with people taking over the habitat of the coyote. That said, I would hunt down any coyote that came near my cat.
