At about 12:30 last night I had what I thought was the most unbelievable gas pain I've ever felt in my life. I tried taking tums, but it just continued to get worse. I couldn't walk, sit, lie down or even breathe...I was in agony. At 1:00 DH and I decided to head to the ER..we figured the hospital could give me something stronger than tums.
We arrived at the ER, checked in and they immediately called
L&D to come get me. Within 15 minutes I had a saline lock in and
was headed downstairs for an ultrasound of my kidneys, liver, spleen
and gall bladder. During the ultrasound I had a major vomit episode.
They gave me a GI cocktail of lidocaine, Maalox, and one other
ingredient that escapes me at the moment. It helped within minutes with
the pain.
The on-call OB happened to be my own so I was a bit relieved to be seeing someone I was already familiar with. She came in and explained that what I had thought was gas pain was actually a gall bladder attack. My liver enzymes were elevated and I have several gall stones, one of which is stuck somewhere along the path between my gall bladder and bile duct (I think, if I remember correctly).
I am following up with the general surgeon this week to discuss whether he wants to remove it now, or whether it can wait until after I have the baby and be scheduled as it's own procedure. The surgeon is leaning towards doing it now as it could get worse and lead to sepsis and he said it would be too risky to do surgery once I'm in my third tri.
My follow up appointment with the surgeon is next Monday morning- the day we leave for our babymoon in San Diego.
Please pray for me and Jack...I'm exhausted, nervous and scared.
Thanks.
Re: Could use some prayers..
My prayers are with you!
My mom is having her gallbladder out on Friday.
Oh no! I'm so sorry you have to go through this now! It will all be fine, though. Both my dad and my sister had gallstones and dad had them for at least a year before he was finally correctly diagnosed with having them and had surgery. My sister had them for several months before she had her surgery. They did have painful attacks but the pain was not consistent and was fairly manageable until they finally each had their surgery.
I also know someone who was pregnant and had a burst appendix. She and the baby came through the surgery just fine!
I will be keeping you in my prayers!
{{{hugs}}}
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
my prayers are definitely with you. I had my gallbladder out when isabel was about 8mths. I was in and out the same morning and was able to pump and dump and still keep BF'ing once the drugs were out of my system.
Before my surgery I just followed the diet the dr gave me and had no attacks.
Thanks everyone. I trust that the surgery is safe otherwise they wouldn't recommend it, but it's still scary. I am afraid of something going wrong and losing Jack =(
I'm so sorry, and I know your pain. I had my first attack about a month after Charlotte was born, it was awful, far worse than any part of my labor or recovery. I've been managing it fine now with diet, and if I get an attack darvoset.
My sister in law had the same thing happen to her at about the same stage of pregnancy and managed with diet, then had it removed 2 days after she delivered. Either way you decide, I hope you feel better soon.

That sounds so stressful, H+P to you and baby! Let us know if we can do anything!
H & P to you and baby Jack
hope things will be better soon
so is this pregnancy related?
Doctor feels confident saying it is 100% pregnancy related. I don't fit the typical profile they teach you in med school of "fat, fair and forty." I do have a family history though...about two years after my mom had me she had gallstones and had her gallbladder removed. Although she fit the typical profile.
oh no
{{{hugs}}} take care of yourself & little j!
My mom and both my sisters had their GB taken out after pregnancy. Mine went bad in 2004 long before P.
I sure hope you can wait it out till after Jack is born but if you do have to have the surgery done during the pregnancy it is a surgery that is done frequently with excellent results.
I bet that's no comfort though. I will think the best thoughts for you and Jack.
Take care love.
Oh no! ?I hope everything will get better.
You and the baby are in my prayers.?
