Poll: What do you think is really cool...
I'm always trying to keep up with "what's out there" because I work at a University and I'm constantly amazed by how much students "just know." I was delighted when I discovered Delicious (Social Bookmarking) and how to really use all of Google's various apps (Reader, Calendar, Gmail, Documents, Blogger, Picasa, etc.). I was pretty proud of myself for finding DropBox, too (online file synching & backup). So... what do you ladies use frequently or think are really cool?
Here's my quick list:
Delicious
DropBox
Mint.com
Facebook
Twitter
StumbleUpon
Angie's List
Cute PDF
Snagit
Pandora...
Re: Poll: What do you think is really cool...
I don't really have anything to add (most web apps I use are pretty task-specific like translators, etc).
But your ticker says that today is your anniversary, so Happy Anniversary! (I hope it's not just a bug in the ticker setup that it keeps saying "Today" even after the actual date passes.)
Pandora, though I've been switching over to Slacker, because I've already used up my Pandora time this month. The Slacker UI is less intuitive and their favorite/bans system is really wonky, but meh.
Google chat, gmail syncing, management & RSS feeds, plus google maps.
Does Fertility Friend count? Their UI is terrible but I'm way too lazy to chart manually.
The weather.com task tray widget. It's only 73 out atm, wtf.
hulu and netflix watch instantly.
PlayOn media server.
Kicks ass. I can get Amazon VOD, Hulu, Netflix, and various other plug-ins like Cartoon Network, Spike TV, BBC America (which I actually haven't been able to get to work because I haven't done the ghost IP step yet), MTV, and a bunch others all on my PS3, 360, and now my Wii (although I don't use it on the wii that often- it's in the same room as the PS3).
It's just awesome.
"It's a child, not a cheeto" Thanks mmariluh!
"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
I think all the ones I use have been listed, as well...
But Happy Anniversary!
One word: Drobo. DH whined for about a year before I and his friends got him one (err, all the components) for Christmas last year. It's basically a NAS with hot-swappable RAID that works on any variety of SATA drives. It has 4 drive bays, but we're only using 2 right now with 1TB drives in each.
We put everything on there since we tend to work off of laptops now, but the main thing we use it for is media storage. We have an ultimate goal of having all media in the house on it (movies, music, photos, etc.) and have it accessible to all computers/tv's in the house.
Hmm... other than that, has Evernote been mentioned yet?
Definitely Hulu, plus Netflix Watch Instant and YouTube. Never before have I been able to waste so much time with videos.
I'm also in love with Wikipedia and IMDB.
Along those lines someone sent me a link to something called Soup.
http://www.soup.io/
I've never gotten around to trying it myself, but she's one of those individuals who is always trying new things out.
Personally, once I'm done nesting, watching instant Netflix and playing WoW, there isn't much time left for other things. Just a touch of Livejournal and Facebook.
I love being able to update grocery/packing/to-do lists whether I'm at work (PC), home (Mac), or out & about (iPhone). DH makes fun of me when I whip out my iPhone in the grocery store to see what we need.
That and Google Docs have significantly cut into the number of emails I'd have to "email myself" between work & home.
