Oh wow - thanks everyone for the congrats and the encouragement!
We're still pretty much in shock and trying to figure it all out...it's good news, but we're manning the panic stations right now - this has completely wreaked havoc on our plans, from our budget (which was comfy with one baby, but buying two sets of everything, paying for daycare for two babies if we can even find a place with double vacancies, etc....well, it's a lot tighter!) to health (identical twins have a higher rate of complications than fraternal ones, and there's a much higher chance that I'll need a Cesarean) to just practicality (breastfeeding two babies at once?! and cloth diapers are now a total forget about it situation lol). But it's still awesome news, and we'll work it all out somehow.
To answer a couple questions...
...nope, twins don't run in my family (we've had a grand total of one set in 4 generations), and although I've been told that they run in Ben's, I'm not sure when or where (as far as I know, none of his grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins are twins, so I'm not sure what relatives are being counted?).
...we're definitely finding out the gender (which of course will be the same since they're identical) when we can! I think it will be boys, and Ben thinks it will be girls.
...and Jaime - I'm totally blaming the Reese's! I've had one pack per week religiously since you sent them lol.
Re: thanks ladies!
Oh wow!!!! I must have missed the post!!! Congrats!!!
My brother has twin girls and they are just the most adorable little girls! I can say that a positive thing about having twins is that at an early stage, they'll already learn how to share and take turns and they'll keep each other company / be each other's constant playmates when they become toddlers. We have the girls over for the whole weekend about every other month or so and they do a great job entertaining themselves when they need to. I've found that they tend to be less "play with me" than most other girls their age!
Yay, Lisa!!! How exciting!!!
You know, when I first read your announcement I was like, "Wheee! Fun! Twins!" But now that you mention it...I guess there IS a lot more stuff to think about, isn't there?
But yes! Fun and exciting things! Wheee! Fun! Twins!
Yeah, actually, I think only fraternal twins run in the family, whereas I don't think anyone *really* knows how/why identitical twins occur.
Either way, it's great news!! And peanuts are good for pg, so those Reese's must be doing you well!
O M G !!!!!! LISA!!!! Well then you will have double the fun. Double the joy. Double the love. Double the amazement and wonder........ I am so excited for you, one, two, three, four, whatever!
Oh, there was a couple from Sydney that we met in the waiting room before the induction started the night before. She was also being induced by my doctor, same deal as I had. Anyway, it worked for her and she ended up delivering at 2:30 p.m. the next day.... We had made a little bet about who'd be first. She won! Anyway, I thought of you when we met them and wondered how things were going..... :-)
Kisses to you and Ben and your babies!

See, this is what I thought too...and I thought that fraternal twins could only run in the woman's side of the family (since they're caused by dropping two eggs, which the guy has nothing to do with)...but I could be wrong?
this is how it has always been explained to me by a couple of different people that are twins or have married a twin...
What an awesome blessing!
That is such wonderful news!!! Congratulations!!! Wishing all the very best x 2

It looks like I missed the original post.
Twins run in my family too, and they seem to be a bit sporatic, my grandfather was a fraternal twin and then my grandmother gave birth to twins and then skipped my mom's generation.........................
Totally missed the post! TWINS!!!!!!!! Double the excitement and blessing
Congratulations!!

I totally laughed when Brent made that comment!!
I wasn't thinking when I asked you if there were twins in your family...there is no genetic link between having identical twins - it's just an odds game - if the egg splits after fertilization or not.... vs fraternal twins where the women is more likely to ovulate 2 eggs during one cycle.... so I guess you just won the twin lottery so to speak
there is more to think about but it is totally do-able... I heard the multiples board is a great resource for moms too

Identical twins are totally by chance anyways. Fraternal twins are the ones that run in families. Just means, you hit the jackpot! Haha.
Duh. I just saw this after I already replied. Yes, you're right.
***deep breaths***
You can do this! The bonus with identical twins is that they can share one room for a long, long time.
Hopefully you'll get lots of hand-me-downs/second-hand items to help with all the stuff you'll need and I am sure it will all work out. I am just so thrilled that you've got TWO little babies to love growing in there. Big congrats!

You are correct. The mama determines the twins. Fraternal is dropping two eggs during ovulation and identical is an egg that splits early on, therefore have two sets of cells with exact DNA. Pretty rare and definitely exciting! Hopefully there's a MOMs (Mother of Multiples) group in your area or at least one online you can connect with...since there are some challenges with TWO babies! You can do it! And at least you have some family nearby...they should be a big help! When will you tell your families?

We already have - I haven't heard back from my mom yet, but my dad sent me an email that said (literally this was the entire message lol): "WOW! WOW! <breathe> <breathe> WOW! <pass out>"
You can see where I get my nerdiness lol.

hawaii 10.2008 plan ;P married bio ???
Wow Lisa, I've been gone a while and am SO happy to see your big news!
My mom is an identical twin and she had fraternal twins (my maternal grandmother actually had two sets of identical twins - crazy!). I was 10 when my brother and sister were born (he is 8 minutes older via c-sec) and although I remember a lot of work for my mom since my dad had to work, it was so much when they were born. They shared a room until I went to college (they were 8).
You and Ben are in for a wild and fun time!
