What is your. . .

So I sorta stole this from the D&R board, but I wanted to know over here, what do you have a degree in? What is your current job and does it have anything to do with your degree or did you just fall into it?

And go. . .

Re: What is your. . .

  • I have a BA in Communication. My current job is in exec. recruitment. But basically my degree is so general I could hawk Girl Scout cookies and it would still apply.

  • I am getting my bachelors in Business Management in Dec. and will probably go on to get my Masters right away. Right now I am a waitress, but I interview next week for a bank job. So, right now my degree wouldn't apply, but ask me next week and it might!

  • My degree is in Business Administration with a concentration in Management.

My job is working for a credit firm as a chargeback analyst (ie, the liason between Visa and MasterCard, issuing banks and certain merchants, like freecreditreport.com, on transactions that have been charged back by cardholders for one reason or another)

So, I guess my job is involved with my degree, but not my concentration. Unless I choose to stay here for a few more years (ain't gunna happen) so I get into a leadership position.

I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.
  • I majored in Spanish teaching and minored in government teaching.

I teach the 2nd grade completely in Spanish at an immersion school.

I stumbled into the job. I am not elementary certified but my brother knew someone at the school and I now have a variance to teach elementary students.

  • I have a BFA in Graphic Design. My current job is a graphic designer (I design websites, ads, logos, etc). Am hoping to find a job upgrade this fall though. My position at this company is pretty entry-level, and I should be making more $$ with 3 years experience.

  • B.A. in Communications (Emphasis Media)

M.A. in Communications (Emphasis Mass Comm. & Media)

M.A. in Literature and Writing (in progress)

I currently teach Public Speaking at a community college, General Education writing at the four-year University where I'm getting my M.A., and work in a writing center as a tutor/consultant.

I guess I kinda use the first M.A. because you have to have a complete M.A. to teach as a JC/CC, and during that M.A. program I taught the class as a T.A. for two years. But other than that, I don't feel like I use the first two degrees AT. ALL. They were basically both to set me up for a career in PR, Advertising, or Journalism...and after attempting to work in all three of those fields, I realized I hated them and went back to school to get the degree I really wanted (the Lit. one).

  • I have a BA in medical technology and another in science education. I teach high school biology and biotechnology, so yes they apply. I don't really need the first one though.

  • I have a BA in sociology and until the wedding working in retail. I just got my CNA and am in the progress of finding a job as a nurse aide.

  • I have my doctoral degree in developmental psychology.  Since this is a research degree (all psych degrees that are not clinical are soley research based) I am trained to be an academic and/or a researcher.  No, I can't analyze you, or your kids - at least not professionally - I may judge though :)  Anyway, right now I am teaching at the college level, so that fits.  All my classes are stats, which kinda fits, but I'd rather be teaching at least a couple of developmental classes.  Also, I'd love to be somewhere I could do research.
  • I just finished my degree in Human Development and Family Sciences and my option was Human Services. I was working at a residential psychiatric facility for adolescents, but stopped that business in August (officially - stopped working about a week before the wedding). I've been interning at the Juvenile Department (Juvenile Probation) all summer, and now that my internship is over, I'm volunteering until I find a job. So, my degree applies to these two jobs. I fell into the first one and then actively sought out the internship. I prefer the boring office work to the action of a residential facility.
  • B.S. in MIS (Management Information Systems)

Did IT and Management Consulting for 3 yrs - now in HR for the same company.

  • MS in Occupational Therapy and yes I use it!!  I am a pediatric OT for Easter Seals, working specifically in early intervention.  I get to play with little ones birth-3 on a daily basis and I love it!!
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • BS in Finance and Accounting

MBA with a concentration in Finance

I do M&A work for a company now - which sort of makes use of my background but I think it would have been more helpful to have some legal background too.

  • I have a BS in Applied Physics with an oceanographic concentration. I'm currently in grad school getting a MS in Physical Oceanography. I use very little of my physics background on a day-to-day basis in my research, but I couldn't have gotten here without it. Most of what I do now is coding and data analysis.

  • B.A. in Linguistics and Poli Sci

I'm in a PhD program for Neurolinguistics/Speech Path. Like Cruella, I'll only be a researcher. Not sure if I'm going to stick it academia or try to work in software development or something. Right now, I just want an income and I'm pretty burnt out.

  • My bachelor's is in Political Science and I am in law school to try to do corporate litigation.

Honestly, I just fell into law school. i wanted to go to med but i sat in on 5 autopsies and couldn't handle it. completely freaked out. There is NOTHING to do with a poli sci degree besides sell purses at macy's, so I had to go to graduate school and i did well on the LSAT so i just went.

    Great reason, right...

I am not working RIGHT NOW, but I just got a job offer (see post above) from a really great corporate firm for next summer so hopefully it will turn into a permanent gig.

So, i will hopefully be using my law degree but not really my poli sci degree.

  • Wow, I am honored to be in such a smart, accomplished group! Beauty and brains, woo-hoo!!

My B.A. is in English with a creative writing concentration. Seeing as how I am a SAHM, the creative writing thing comes in very handy now. :)

I write a regular column and also freelance, so technically I am still using my degree, gotta love that.

  • I have a BFA in Graphic Design.  I worked as a Web Designer for a couple years and have been working toward becoming a Software Engineer for the past couple years.  I have found that I enjoy programming more than designing!

I have 2 semesters left of grad school to get my Masters in Software Engineering.

  • I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology, so technically I am qualified to analyze you all...but I won't (unless you want to pay me)Smile. I could do academia, research, or get my license and open a private practice with this degree, but for now I'm a Research Scientist. I do substance abuse research, focusing on tobacco cessation during pregnancy and postpartum. I definitely miss the clinical side of things and thought about adding a night or two of seeing clients in someone else's practice to get hours for licensure, but I already feel so drained I don't think I could do it right now. Eventually, I'd like to get a grant and do research 75% of the time and be part of a group private practice to see clients 25% of the time.

  • I have a BA in Health Sciences with a concentration in Laboratory Sciences. I worked in a medical laboratory for 3 years and then went back to school. I have a BS in Accounting and am now working as Controller for a Commercial Developer. I definitely use my degree in my job (the second one). I plan on going back soon for my MBA because my job is becoming a lot more management oriented.
  • BA in Criminal Justice (was a juvenile correctional officer and child support officer)  got burned out of dealing with people who hate me and crappy hours

MA in Human Development emp on Diversity and Organizational Development. While getting my MA I took an Accouting class and really liked it.

I am now working for my FIL's Accounting firm and I see it as a mentorship.  I am doing admin work.  I plan to go back to school and hopefully get my CPA eventually.

  • My BA is in Psychology. My MA is in Art Therapy. I currently write MFE's and IEP's for Spec Ed. kids. So I am doing nothing with my degree which stinks. We don't have licensure in Ohio, so no one will pay for it and the people that do get jobs where there is art therapy keep them for life! So I am thinking of going back to school and get a more "useful" degree, not sure in what though.

  • I have my BA in mass communication (Advertising) and am currently getting my MPH (masters in public health).  Right now I am a research associate for a health communication PhD researching health behavior and designing mass communication health materials (brochures, videos, etc).

I chang my mind practically every day about what I want to "be when I grow up".  After my first two weeks in the public health program, I've been fascinated by public health policy and want to go to law school.  This will change next week.

  • BA in Business/Economics

    BA in Spanish

    1/2 way through MBA

I work for an investment management firm, so use my Business/Econ degree daily. the Spanish, not so much.

  • BS in Finance

    MS in Higher Postsecondary Education

I work in admissions for a small, private liberal arts college so I use my MS but not my BS at all.

  • BS in elementary education with a subconcentration in Special Education

Currently getting my MS in special ed, and I'm a general ed. kindergarten teacher now so I'm using both of my degrees. I'm in a private school now but I want to get into a public school system ASAP.

  • BA in Human Development. Not currently using it since I didnt get into med school like I plannedCrying.....but I am planning on applying again or to pharmacy school next year so I can use my minor in Organic Chemistry.

  • BA in English and Theater - worked as a freelance scenic artist/painter/stage manager/props designer for five years, got tired of looking for new jobs every three months...

And went back to school to get my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with teacher cert... so now I teach freshman Survey of Lit, which technically uses the MEd, but freshman English in the city is a lot like 6th grade Reading (and not so much like college lit....) so I don't use the BA that much.  I did run an improv group as an extracurricular last year, so I guess I kind of used the Theater BA (but it was really more like my high school Drama club).

Thinking about going back for a PhD so I can teach college and not have to deal with the maturity level (not that college kids are that much more mature than 15 year olds), but also considering getting certified as a reading specialist, getting a type 75 (administration) certificate, or going to law school...
