What is your name?
Who named you?
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc)
Do you like your name? Why/why not?
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender)
Why? (aside from just liking the name)
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc)
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand?
Re: Name POLL
What is your name? Lori
Who named you? Surprisingly, my dad named me. My mom picked my brother's name [Reid], so he got to choose my name
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) I have no clue where he got the name from. I looked up the popularity of Lori in the 80's (when I was born) and it wasn't that popular-- moreso in the 70s I think. Guess he liked the name for awhile?!
Do you like your name? Why/why not? It's OK. Definitely don't think it's a terrible name, but I'm not in love with it either.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) Brooke. If we have another girl, I like Stella, Violet, Mila, Leighton, Lily-- feminine names. If we have a boy, I like Ethan, Logan, Liam.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) Vance pretty much named Brooke-- he just kept coming back to Brooke and any other name wasn't "it" for him.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) We ruled out anything in the top 20 and we didn't want anything too unusual. We also wanted something that wouldn't get misspelled a bunch of times, or a name that looked/sounded made up.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? I don't care for Madison as well as anything -aden. I also don't really like the place name-trend (though some are not terrible, they are not my favorites)

What is your name? Amy
Who named you? My mom.
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) I had a very long last name so she wanted something easy for me to learn to spell. She was also considering Kate, after my father's grandmother, but thought I looked more like an Amy.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? Yup
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) We only plan on (hopefully) having one and it will be named after a President of the US - Madison, Kennedy, Lincoln, Regan, etc.....
Why? (aside from just liking the name) There are some cool Presidential names! And, MH is a TOTAL US history buff.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Nope
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? There is a Y in every name - where there shouldn't be one. It's like it's a game to see if people can put a Y in any name possible. Drives.Me.Nuts.
What is your name? Robbi
Who named you? my mom and (real) dad both picked it
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) I don't tell many people, but I'm named after my (real) dad - Robert. Cute right? Until he turns out to not be such a great dad. oh well, I LOVE my name - it's pretty unique and "fits" me - or so I have been told.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? oops, already answered that part. I usually just leave out the part about how I got my name.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender)
Why? (aside from just liking the name)
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) I think we will pick "A" middle names b/c MH's middle name is A. I don't think we discussed any other rules, but I definitely wouldn't name my child the same thing as any of my ex's. We do want to stick with family names.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? I'm personally not a big fan of adding somewhat random "y"s to a name - Pyper
What is your name? Chika
Who named you? I believe it was a joint effort from both my parents
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) The Japanese characters in my name mean good things
Do you like your name? Why/why not? I used to hate it b/c substitute teachers could never pronounce it right, even thought it's so simple. If I had a penny for every time some said my name meant girl in Spanish, I'd be rich. Now, I've grown to like it.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) Hmmm... DH really likes the name Ruby, I like Camille or Camillia. I'd love for our LO's to have names that could be Japanese as well so we're pondering that as well.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) I think I explained it above
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Not really, but I think the decision to not name it after any exes was unanimous.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? I don't think I'm a fan of naming kids after celebrities that are hot at the moment. It's fine if they're older or passed away. JMO.
I just keep thinking of that celebrity every time I look at the kid.
What is your name?
Nancy
Who named you?
My mom and dad narrowed it down to Nancy or Ann
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc)
The decision was when my mom was in the hospital and there was a lady named Ann who was a Beotch... so, she crossed that name off the list. I'm not sure how they came up with names. None of my siblings are named after anyone.
Do you like your name? Why/why not?
As a kid, I loved my name. At some point in my teens, someone said it was an old lady name... so, I wished I had something more unique. It must be a northwest thing, b/c I never heard it until recently... have you heard the term "Nancy Boy"? I guess it means a sissy. Hmm, makes me like it less.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender)
Lauren
Why? (aside from just liking the name)
Lots of turmoil and everyone's opinions about names was overwhelming. I think Lauren just sounded nice, simple and classic.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc)
No exes, no names of people we didn't like
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand?
The one name I can't stand = Pia. My 1st H had an affair with her while I was pregnant. You can be sure, that name was not considered.
Newlyweds since 2007
What is your name? Jessica
Who named you? my mom
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) she liked it - nothing really significant
Do you like your name? Why/why not? Sure, however it was one of those very popular names in the 80's and I always thought it would be nice to have a more unique name. Growing up, I hated being called "Jessica E." if there was another Jessica in my class.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) MH & I named her Waianuhea Luciana Leimomimakamae K.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) MH is Hawaiian and gave her her first name because he thought it was beautiful. Her first middle name is in honor of my grandmothers whose names are Lucy & Lucille. Luciana is the Italian version of the name, all which mean light. Her second middle name means precious pearl lei/necklace however the "Lei" part of the name is after my middle name (Leilani), "momi" means pearl and is in honor of MH's grandma Margaret (which also means pearl), and "makamae" which means precious or treasure, was given to her because I actually had a dream that her middle name was treasure.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) I decided that MH could choose her first name, and my only rule was that I had to like it too. With the middle names, my rule was that I wanted them to be significant and if we were naming her after a relative we had to know that relative personally. For example, we could not name her after a great great aunt that we never met. Also, the name had to be a variation, or something that meant the same thing, but not the exact same name.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? Here on Kauai it would have to be "Z" and "X" names that are made up with funky spellings and have no meaning.
What is your name? Lisa
Who named you? My parents. Is this a trick question, lol? I think my mom maybe liked it a bit more than my dad, if that's what you mean.
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) My mom has told me that they wanted a "nice, normal name, nothing weird."
Do you like your name? Why/why not? Eh, it's OK. It's very common - I don't think I was ever the only Lisa in any class (including college) that I was in, which was kind of a pain.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) We have a whole list lol - we have it down to two first names for both boys and girls, but the middle names for the girls are still up in the air.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) Three of the four first names are significant to Ben and I - the last one we just like. The middle names don't have that much significance - we just like the way they sound and their meanings.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Nothing in the top 20 except for one of our boy names (William, which I know is uber popular, but it has been for the last 200 years or so lol so there's not much we can do about it), nothing too trendy or too out there, no Jrs.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? Using "y" unnecessarily and whacking in extraneous consonants - like when Madeleine becomes Mayddylynne. Crazy town!
Who named you? Not sure. I guess both of my parents. My mom wanted to name me Leina but my dad thought it was too Hawaiian sounding. My dad wanted Elizabeth but I guess my mom didn't like it? I have no idea where Christine came from.
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) No idea.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? Meh. It's ok but I don't love it. And I used to hate being called Chris because it's THE most common name, what with all the Christophers, Christians, Christinas, Kristis and Kristins out there.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) B thinks I shouldn't tell anyone her name until she's born.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) It came from a song. I just said, "What about _____?" He liked it and it just sort of stuck.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) No strict rules but there are lots of names we've ruled out because they remind us of people or are close to names of people we don't want to be reminded of. I do want their middle names to be Japanese, though.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? Weird spellings. And the unnecessary Ys, also.
What is your name? Mariko
Who named you? My mommers. My dad originally wanted to name me Angela (he also wanted to name my brother Dexter).
Why did they pick that name? My dad was stationed in Japan when he met my mom (he met her in the Phillipines though), so was really into the Japanese culture...guess he rubbed off on my mom. Besides my name being very common in Japan, there was a character in Shogun named Mariko.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? When I was younger (8-ish) I hated it and wanted to be Jessica or Jennifer like everyone else.
) But now I love having a different name from everyone else. Everyone in my area thinks my name is Spanish and call me Marika instead of Mariko. Sometimes telemarketers or my mail says "Mr."; since my name ends with an O, people think it's a boys name...that's annoying.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender): I really like Hawaiian and Japanese names. Hubbers already has his favorite names picked out; we'll have to work on compromising.
) Hubbers wants to name a son Alion; inspired by his love for ALIENS. I am sooo not kidding. LoL. I personally loooove the name Kai. For a girl, DH likes Kalia, I have waaay to many favorites to choose from (plus it would help if I was KU). If I have a girl, I want her middle name to start with an "O". Just something I want to start since my middle name and my mom's middle name both start with an O.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Just that we both must be in agreement.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? Crazy spellings that don't make sense.

Why? (aside from justliking the name) MH is Hawaiian and gave her her first namebecause he thought it was beautiful. Her first middle name is in honor ofmy grandmothers whose names are Lucy & Lucille. Luciana is theItalian version of the name, all which mean light. THIS is awesome! Love themeanings associated with the name. :-)
Also, LOVE this poll!
What is yourname?Malia Elena
Who namedyou? Notsure... My parents?
Why did theypick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc)
I was supposed to be Cynthia! Can you imagineme as a Cynthia?! My mom and dad had just moved to Hawaii and my mom deliveredat Kapoliani. She saw the name "Malia" on a painting or wallpaper andthey switched my name at the last minute. My middle name "Elena" isafter my mother's mother.
Do you likeyour name? Why/why not?
Yes, I love it. Growing up, I didn't thinkmuch about it. It was common in Hawaii and just a normal name. Now that I liveon the mainland, it makes me stand out. People KNOW I am from Hawaiiimmediately, which is cool. And NOW, with Malia Obama, my name is even coolerthan ever! Yay! My mom is a Republican tho, so she is not so thrilled.Hahahahahaha.
What do youplan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender)
We considered several names... Janey AnnFrida, Lucy Ann Frida, Sydney Rose, Roxanne "Roxy" Frida......... Butthe winner was Alexa Leilani!!!!
Why? (asidefrom just liking the name)
Whew. This is a long one. We chose"Alexa" for DH's uncle Alan, who he was very close to and who I alsoknew well. He signed and read the Katubah (Jewish wedding contract) at ourwedding. He was always ready with a smile and the sweetest man ever. InDecember, about two days after we conceived but well before we KNEW that wewere pregnant, he collapsed and died while playing tennis. He was 69. I havefelt the whole pregnancy that Uncle Al has been watching over Alexa, like herguardian angel. We named her in his honor.
We also wanted to name for DH's grandmother,Frieda "Fritzie" Singer Herman. I met her once. She was a veryindependent and strong woman. We considered making our daughter's middle name"Frida," spelled like the artist, or even Singer. I think we were allset on "Alexa Singer" when I told DH that I felt it wasn't fair thathe had the whole name and nothing in it was a reflection of me or my side. Myside doesn't have any naming traditions, so we were mostly just doing theJewish naming tradition on his side.
I said I wanted the middle name to beHawaiian. We discussed using Kai. Or Going with Janey and using Anani or Aolaniinstead of Ann and then using Frida. But I felt strongly that I wanted just onemiddle name since my having 2 middle names now that I'm married has been apain. Unfortunately, there are no F's in the Hawaiian language to use forFrida! Doh! We chose Leilani because it means "Heavenly Flower," Ffor Frida. We also liked that it has "Lani" in the name because thatreminds us of where we got married, Lanikuhonua.
We didn't finalize Alexa Leilani until theSunday before I was induced...... So I think Alexa was late because she waswaiting for us to come up with the perfect name. It took us a while. :-)
Realized later??.. All the women in mylineage have the 2nd syllable of their name starting with the letter?L???. Grandmother - Elena, Mother - Lillian, Me-Malia, My dauther - Alexa
Were thereany "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc)
Jewish naming tradition after passedrelatives. Nothing tooo unusual for first name. We each could veto a name, ithad to be something we BOTH loved.
What is theone name or trend that you can't stand?
Hate the unusual misspelled names, like Jayson or Alisson. Hate theextra "y's" in the names.

What is your name? Anna
Who named you? I think both my mom and my dad take credit, but I think it was mostly my mom.
Why did they pick that name? Oh gosh, I can't remember exactly. I think my mom knew someone named Anna who she really loved, but I can't remember who. Isn't that terrible? I should ask her again.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? I've always loved the name Anna. My middle name is Caroline and for some reason I never really liked it. I actually really like the name as a first name but somehow I never personally identified with it as a middle name.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender): We've talked about it a little bit...we both like Italianized versions of names, like "Livia" instead of Olivia, and we both like 'L' names. DH and his sister's names both start with the same letter and I kind of like the idea of that too--it's a little cutesy, I know. I also really like flower names for girls--Lily, Rose, Violet, Ivy, etc. I think we will probably choose first names that we like the sound of and then family names for middle names. Both of our families are big in the passing down of family names.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Um, I think it will probably be "nothing stupid"?
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? Definitely the 'y' trend. Who are these people??? I also don't get naming kids for strange places...I can understand 'Paris', but 'Bronx' and 'Brooklyn'?? I mean, the Beckhams named one of their kids 'Brooklyn' but they are from England....did they conceive in Brooklyn? That's just weird.
What is your name? Lindsay
Who named you? My Mom...I think
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) I was named after the Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner!
Do you like your name? Why/why not? It's ok, I don't really care either way. As a kid no one had my name until high school and there ended up being like 7 in my class. Now Lindsay seems to be fairly common with many ways to spell it and I hate getting asked if it's spelled with an "a" "e" or a "y". It's Lindsay, like normal!
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) We have many planned, but too many people end up getting pregnant around me and taking my names!
MH likes Addison, we like Riley, Sophie for girls. For boys MH likes Rollie or Rigley (DON'T ASK) and I like Landon, but he thinks it sounds terrible. But of course I have vetoed those and he vetos any other boy name I come up with
Why? (aside from just liking the name) He likes Addison because it's one of the streets outside of Wrigley Field but I don't like it because I don't people to call her Addie, he like Rollie because of the baseball player Rollie Fingers with the huge crazy moustache, and he likes Rigley because of well, Wrigley Field. Can you sense a huge Cubs theme here?!?! UGH! It's a constant battle I deal with, thank goodness I'm not KU yet to actually have to make this desision right now
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) No rules that I can think of quite yet.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? I really hate the whole Maddie and Addie thing (my reasoning above). I'm over it really. And I hate the over usage of "y" in names too, just spell the name normal!

What is your name? Vanessa Victoria
Who named you? my mom
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) My mom...she said it was a name she's always loved & knew she would name her daughter that one day.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? I do. When I was younger, I wasn't crazy about it b/c all of the cute personalized stuff never had my name, but now I think that is a good thing. And my name has definitely become more popular now so if I really want that personalized keychain, I could find it!
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) I am not sure yet. I love a lot of names, but not set on one.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) We would definitely try to pick something with a special meaning...though no real family naming traditions.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Nothing ridiculous (i.e. celebrity kids names - Sparrow, Kal-El, Mowgli)
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? i agree with some pp about city names, and the super popular names. I don't want my LO to have a completely bizarre name, but I also don't want her/him & all of their friends to have the same name.
What is your name? Leah
Who named you? My Mom
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) No real reason....she said she read it in a book once and liked it. It's NOT because of Star Wars, despite the fact that I was born in 1977 (when the movie came out). She hadn't even heard of the movie when I was born.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? I love it. It's not too common, yet not completely foreign to most people. I just don't like it when people pronounce it "Lee."
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) Gotta work on making one first!
I like old-fashioned names, though, like Henry, Oliver, and Alice. I also like German names like Liesl and Annaliese.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) Like I said about my own name, I don't like names that are TOO common, yet I like them to be recognizable.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) I'm a teacher, so no names of bad kids! Also, I teach the whole school, so I see a lot of names every year. If I've had 10 kids throughout my teaching career with a certain name, I feel it's too common. I'd like it if my kid didn't have to use their last initial all the time because there's already 3 other Madisons on their class.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? The Madison/Addison thing. Cute, but too common. Same with Aidan. I know three girls who've named their child Aidan in the last year. For some reason, I also don't like it when people use ethnic names with absolutely no connection to the culture. For example, I think it's super cute to use a Hawaiian name if that's where you got married, are from, or have just visited a lot and love it there.....basically have any sort of a connection. But I know a lot of people who seem to like Irish names and aren't Irish, have never even been there, and don't have any connection whatsoever to the culture. This shouldn't bug me, but for some reason it does.
What is your name?
Kristin Virginia
Who named you?
My parents
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc)
Not sure. I know they kept my initals the same as my mom and grandmother...KVG
Do you like your name? Why/why not?
Yes, although I do get annoyed when it's misread. I'm in the same boat as Christine...being called any variation of Kristin (Christian, Christine, etc...) Plus, I hate it when people spell it -en. At least ask first!
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender)
We have discussed many names for our future LOs, and have come up with Kenley Vi for a girl to preserve the KV trend of my family (Vi pronouced Vee).
And for a boy, we have been going back and forth, but so far either Ryder James or Riley James.
Why? (aside from just liking the name)
Answered that for the girl, and no real reason for the boy.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc)
Not really, just no one that we knew and didn't like.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand?
I have to agree with ridiculous names. I don't mind some celebrity baby names, but the utter ridiculousness of a kid named Ka-El (Nic Cage's son) or Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee's kid)...you have gone TOO far!
What is your name? Tanya Louise
Who named you? mom
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) my mom heard it and just liked it. i guess back when i was little people thought i was named after patty hearst (after she emerged as an sla convert with the name Tanya)...definitely not...lol
Do you like your name? Why/why not? i do like, i never had a choice so i never pondered it much. it's better than my bro's names...poor guys...they have some jacked up names!
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) if we ever have kids and it's a girl...Avery Louise
Why? (aside from just liking the name) it's both of our middle names
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) n/a
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? weird spellings
What is your name? Yvonne Reina
Who named you? I believe my dad did at least my middle name. Means Queen in spanish.
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc)
I was actually suppose to be a boy and not sure if they had any boy names picked out. so i dont think they named me after anyone.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? Yes I love my name. except hate the fact that people can't say E-vonne, they say YA-vonne. Because it's spelled with a Y and not E but pronounced with E.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) We named our daughter Chloe Leann. If we have a boy it will be either Bryce Lane or Brenden Lane. DH picked out middle name and won't budge.
Why? (aside from just liking the name). I had about 5 names I like and told DH to pick one and he fell in love with Chloe. I picked Leann because I love that name for a middle.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) That she wasn't going to be named after anyone. She was to have her own name. She does have daddy's initals though. Chloe Leann Compton. Charles Louis Compton... team CLC.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? people that spell their kids names funky. Just go with traditional way
What is your name? Melissa
Who named you? It was a family affair.
Why did they pick that name? My mom really wanted to name me Pier. But my dad was a German immigrant and thought my name should be very American and very standard. So I was "baby girl" for a while after leaving the hospital. My grandpa suggested "Marissa," and my sister translated that to my parents as "Melissa," and that was that.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? It's OK. But I really hated that there were 3 of us in my high school class and one of my best friends in college was also a Melissa. Way. Too. Common. I would have preferred Pier.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? I think we feel pretty strongly about one girls name and one boys name, but I don't think we'll share until the baby is born and we know if it's a boy or girl.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? We like standard names, particularly if they can be shortened into more casual nicknames. (E.g., if I liked "Nikkie," I'd go with Nicole/Nicolette and just call her by the nn). I like to imagine my child one day being a professional and wanting them to have a fitting name, with a respectable spelling -- not something like Dr. Sweetie Pye Hunniebunches. People here try to get so creative with names, and, more times than not, I think it ends up sounding or looking really silly.
I think our girl's name is in the 500s, nickname in the 300s. The boy's name is the in 50s or 60s, but oh well... it's harder with the boys!
Great poll!
What is your name? Lesley Keiko
Who named you? both my mom and my dad, grandma gave me my Japanese middle name
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) well they were told that I would be a boy so they only had a boy name picked out, blaine, then were surprised when I showed up. The nurses name was Leslie and the liked it, so they just decided to change the spelling
Do you like your name? Why/why not? yay it's okay, pretty common but the spelling not so much. My sisters name is Stacey and it's an uncommon spelling too so when we look for personalized stuff it's hard.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender?) Mh andI ended up naming her Jaylee Emiko. Blake was also on the list, we both liked boy names for girls. We also considered Kayla and Ryan. Boys names were Blake, Ryan, Brayden, Aidan
Why? (aside from just liking the name) Jaylee is a mixture of our names (James and Lesley) and Emiko means smiling/happy child. We knew she would have a Japanese name. We were stuck between Emiko and Mieko(properous one) so when she showed up SMILING we know that was the right name.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) no exes, no names of Students that drove me crazy in the past. Something a little unique but not a name that the teachers would screw up.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand? the crazy diferent spelling of names. I have one girl this year named Sharmaiynne (sharmaine) and had a student name Jasun. serious I'm all for phonics but did you really need to spell his name phoneticly. and I totally agree with the Neveah one, most kids I know named that are defiently not heaven...
has anyone read the book freakonomics? it talks about the socioeconomic impact your child's name has...it's super interesting. maybe i'll just name my kid herbert
Great Poll!!
What is your name? Sujen Kaylee
Who named you? My parents did. Apparently, they were assuming that I was going to be a boy!? I guess that back then, it was hard to tell on the u/s if you were having a boy or girl...so they decided to wait until delivery. But for some reason, they only had a BOY name ready. I think that my dad was just set on having a son. I actually never asked them what that name was going to be...now i'm curious!
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) Sujen is a pretty common name in Korea. Most of the times, i've seen it spelled "sujin" which sounds more like it should than "sujen". I think that my parents decided to do the "-jen" part b/c my sister's name is Jenny. They wanted it to match.
Also, middle names are not apart of korean names. So, me and my sister had the same middle name growing up. Just a letter "K." Kid you not. Weird?! We asked why they decided to do this, and they said that it was b/c both of their first names ended with a K so they gave us a K. Later, we came to realize that one of my cousins also had a letter K as a middle name. I thought it was interesting, but BORING! When we got married, I combined my "k" with my maiden last name. So it became Kaylee.
Do you like your name? Why/why not? I HATED my name as a child. I had so many nicknames growing up! Now, I like that my name is different. Well, here in the states at least.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) I'm not sure what I would name our LOs. I really want my daughter(s) to have "-lee" somewhere in their name. Think it would be cute to pass on my maiden name somehow. But I also love the name Ella, which is pretty common it seems. For boys, I have always loved the names Eli & Micah. Not sure why..just do! Also, they will most likely have Korean & Japanese names. I'm hoping to find some names that will work for both cultures so they won't end up with the super long name. (MH last name is 10 letters long!! HUGE change from my 3 letter last name..haha)
Why? (aside from just liking the name) above
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc) Not really. But then again, we haven't really talked about it yet. I'm sure that it'll come up during that phase of our lives together ;D
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand?
What is your name?
Lori
Who named you?
My mother
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc)
Know idea. I was supposed to be named Margaret and called Meg (after my great grandmother) but when I came into this world my mom thought that I just looked like a Lori. WTF? I blame it on my mom having to stay in the hospital on drugs for 6 weeks to keep us in and then going through an emergency C-section to get us out.
Do you like your name? Why/why not?
It's okay. I am not in love with it. My main complaint is that it's basically a nickname for a more formal/proper name like Lorianne. I prefer more formal names that can be shortened for familiarity. When I was launching my singing career I considered changing it to Lauren, but I never did it.
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender)
We plan on naming her Elizabeth Joan after our mothers (their middle names) and calling her Libby. For a boy, we've chosen Theodore Maxwell and calling him Theo.
Why? (aside from just liking the name)
Our baby girl's name was easy since it's my mom's and his mom's middle names. I like Elizabeth because it's a nice, traditional name that has lots of options for shortening like Libby, Liza, Lilybeth, Lisa, Beth, Betty, etc. When she is at an age to have an opinion about Libby, if she wants to change it, we will. For now, we think Libby J is pretty darn cute and sort of sassy!
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc)
Not really, mainly that we agreed upon it, that it sounds good with our last name and is a name that she can grow into as an adult. Same for our boy's name. With a one syllable last name we want longer first names (3-4 syllables) that's shorter version is still two syllables.
What is the one name or trend that you can't stand?
"Unique" spellings...to me that just make the parents seem illiterate. And I feel bad for the kids who have to grow up with those wacky spellings. I am also not a fan of giving girl's boy's names and vice versa. I have a female colleague named Timothy and to me, that's just weird.

What is your name? Kristen
Who named you? My mom
Why did they pick that name? (Named after an actress, a relative, etc) Dunno
Do you like your name? Why/why not? Sometimes it's a little common and gets mixed up w/ Chris, Christopher, Kristine, Christina, etc...
What do you plan on naming your LO OR what did you name your LO? (If you only have one, what do you plan on naming the next one, or one of the opposite gender) Ella Juliet, next one for a girl will probably be Sofia (Sofie for short, Jonathan (Johny) for a boy.
Why? (aside from just liking the name) I liked "E" names and my sister is Julianna, but I didn't like Ella Julianna next to eachother so we modified the Julie part.
Were there any "rules" about choosing your LO's name? (Nothing in top 10, exes, etc), Not "rules" per se, but we had been set on a boys name of Jacob before we hung out w/ freinds who had a little boy of that name, he was a little turd, so we scratched the name off the list.
