Question about laptop repair.

DH has dropped his laptop one too many times, and the screen on his laptop is almost broken free from the keyboard part.  Well, he tripped over it after sitting it on the floor to chase after me silly boy!

He tried to run it on...and while it turned on the screen wasnt coming on...and then finally did come on but the screen looked like shattered glass.  Does anyone know if there is a possibility of repairing this...or is it worth it to just buy another laptop?  TIA for any help :)

Re: Question about laptop repair.

  • If it is just the screen I know that can be repaired. I would take it to someone you trust to see if they can fix it.
  • Yes the screen can be repaired but is the (non techy terms) frame of the screen broken or anything like that? The screen itselft can but may not be able to be fixed if the frame is broken.

The frame isnt broken-except that it is almost separated at the hinge, and the screen isnt broken at all.  Im guessing the wiring that connects it has messed up.

  • Screens can be repaired, but it really depends on the laptop if it's worth it or not.  Most of the time it cost just as much to replace the screen as it does to buy a new laptop.

If this is the case, then my recommendation would be to keep the laptop, but to plug it into an external monitor and use it (effectively) as a desktop computer.

This is exactly what DH plans to do just so he can at least get his info off of it that he is needing.  Thanks everyone for your help!
