Churrascarias? Refain Brazilian Steakhouse?

I am in OK and we do not have these type of restaurants and I'm heading to Dallas this weekend and want to try one out...maybe the Refain specifically? Though they seem pricey!

What's it like? Better options than Refain in Dallas? How costly is it? How does it work with the array of meats? Thanks!

Re: Churrascarias? Refain Brazilian Steakhouse?

  • My mom is Brazilian so we've tried them all. Our favorite is Fogo de Chao (on beltline) but it's the most expensive of all of them. Our second favorite is Texas de Brazil.

My sudgestion is to go at lunch, they have almost all the same meats (except two) and they offer a lunch price. Plus eating that much food at night, made it hard to go to sleep. (for me) I practically had to roll myself out of the restaurant at dinner.

  • FYI -- Rafain has dinner for 2 for $60. You just have to mention you saw it on their website. It disappears after several seconds, but they still have it up there.

I've only been to Rafain and I thought it was good.

  • I've been to Rafain and Texas de Brazil, they are both tasty but I thought that Rafain was better and nicer.

It's all you can eat.  There is a large salad bar that you eat before they begin serving the meats.  There's really good stuff on it, but try not to fill up too much because you're really there for the meat (and that's what you're paying the high price for).  After the servers see that people are starting to finish their salad bar plates, they'll start offering the meat.  You have a card next to your place setting; one side is green and the other side is red.  As long as you have it turned to the green side, they will keep offering you meat.  There is a variety of cuts with different seasonings and cooked to different temperatures.

I've been to Fogo de Chao and Rafain.  They are both good, but Fogo is the better one of the two.  I think it's fun to try for the experience of it, but honestly there are better meals you can have in Dallas for that amount of money IMO.  The last time we went to Fogo for dinner, the bill for DH and I was around $170.  We had dinner, shared a caipirinha, and each had a glass of wine.

ETA: That total includes tip :)

  • You can get a $25 certificate for Rafain's on restuarant.com for a couple of bucks.  Look for discount codes online.  I like Texas de Brazil, but I've never been to Rafain's.
  • Another cheaper option (not as nice, but the same idea and still good, I think anyway) is Master Grill.
