Help me entertain a 6 year old visitor :)

My older sister (7 months pregnant) and my 6 year old neice are coming to stay with my husband and I mid October, yay!  However, due to the time of year - and my sister being pregnant, I am at a loss for what we should do!

I know the obvious - zoo, aquarium, children's museum, etc..but was wondering if anyone had any fun ideas for other things to do with kids in Cincy.  We don't have kids and are not from the area, so my husband and I don't have a lot of idea.

Re: Help me entertain a 6 year old visitor :)

  • I don't know if she's in to trains at all, but there is EnterTRAINment Junction in the Mason area and there is also a few places around town called Jump zone, or some form of Jump name (there are a few franchises) It's just basically a huge place with all sorts of inflatables and the kinds normally have a blast! I take my 4 year old nephew sometimes and he loves it, plus it wears them out! There is also Great Wolf Lodge and Coco Key. I know you have to stay the night at Great Wolf to be able to use the waterpark, but I believe Coco Key you can just buy a day pass and have access to the waterpark without paying for a room. Chuck E Cheese is always an option but they may have those where they live. I don't know where you live, but there is a place in Florence Mall where you can take kids and they can get all dressed up and their makeup done and what not. I have seen a bunch of little girls walking around that mall like it was halloween and they all looked like they had a great time. Someone else will have to help with the name of it because I have no idea. I live on the east side and in Anderson there is a pottery place near the Outback steakhouse where you can take kids to paint their own pottery and they fire it for you. That may be a good idea for you to take her there and she can possibly make something for the new baby.

Just throwing out a bunch of ideas, sorry it a big jumbled mess... I don't have any kids, just some cute nephews that I try to take out when I can.

  • My niece just had her 5 year old birthday at the roller rink.  I thought these had pretty much gone out of style, but there were a ton of kids there who all seemed to be having fun.

Also, in NKY there is Silverlake.  We aren't members, but had my nephews birthday there and they have a giant blow up play area and an indoor water park area. I'm not sure the cost for non-members to just get a day pass, although I think they have the one-day pass a lot of times for free to see if you like the center.

I second the pottery idea. I know there's one in the Crestview Town Center in NKY.

There's also the Renaissance Festival.  That might be too much walking for your sister since she's PG, but we took my nieces and nephews there opening weekend and they had a blast.  (they range from 5 to 10 years old).

  • There is Boo-Fest at the Museum Center. I'm not sure what weekends they are doing it this year, but thats an option. We have some family friends with a 6 year old and she loves arts and crafts. You can normally find great kits (paint your own tea set, make funky flip flops, ect) at Micheals or Hobby Lobby.

I'm sure whatever you do she'll love because she will be getting a lot of specail attention.

    Have fun!

  • She's old enough to play in the Ikea kids area.  You could check the local parks, maybe they have some fall activities.  Borders and other bookstores have free story time.  There's a children's bookstore in Oakley-the Blue something

I think the bookstore is the Blue Manatee... my friend takes her baby there twice a week for readings
