Weird Poll: Your DH's terminology

This is weird, but...

What term do you use to refer to your period?

What term does your husband use to refer to your period?

I say "period"

C says "your time of the month".

He just told me I should have told another woman that (long, irrelevant, boring background story) and I said, "women don't use that term". He said, "guys do". I think he's wrong so we're looking to all of you to settle the debate!

Re: Weird Poll: Your DH's terminology

  • It depends on the context, subject, reason for discussing it, etc.

  • I say period for the most part. Or "AF" when speaking online. (though, yes, she's NOT a family member.)

DH either uses the crude "on the rag" or "end of sentence." He's weird.

  • We both say period.

  • I say period. I think he typically calls it 'his monthly enemy'

    Aww, I love that.

  • This is so weird, but we both say "The bears are here." As in, "I read somewhere that their periods attract bears."  Inside joke.
  • Shag's H FTW. Now we have a term that he can love and doesn't make me cringe. At least he doesn't call it Aunt Flo. I would never have married him.

  • I think we both just say that time of the month. Sometimes I say period. But we always say it with dread like, "Aw sh*t, it's THAT time of them month".

  • We refer to it as "being broken". As in, "Sorry Honey, we can't have sex... I'm broken". (Except, we use different terminology for a couple of other words in that sentence too, but you wouldn't understand if I used them Smile)

Yesterday I was talking to him and he referred to it as "on the rag", which he's never done before. It totally grossed me out. I think that phrase is so crude! He says that's what guys say when they're talking to each other about it.

  • sometimes i say "period".

H refers to is as me being "broken", like I am temporarily out of order. So a lot of the time i will refer to "being broken" also.

  • When my H says anything about "the rag" I scold him. It's so gross. Last time I had my period, he referred to it as me being broken too.

  • I think I prefer "rag" to "broken". I have some issues with that term (which I've never heard before). Especially since having it means that you are in excellent working condition.

  • My ex boyfriend swears that some people call it "The Rhonda".  True or false?
  • Me: Period or time of month

    Him: "Your week"

I'm not a fan of the rag or broken either.  Rag is outdated, if you think about it, its probably what they used before pads were invented.  Broken just seems inaccurate since you, in fact, AREN'T broken if you are getting AF.

  • We are boring. We both say period.
  • This thread is cracking me up! I have heard of Rhonda.  I agree rag is gross.  Shag, you crack my sh!t up with "his monthly enemy."

He typically says I'm "on" my period, which drives me nuts.  I'm not on anything.  I'm leaking.

So, since we are talking about this....he came home from a week long trip last night.  I became "broken" yesterday, much to his horny chagrin.  This morning he asks me (in all seriousness) if I'd be ready to go tonight.  You'd think he knows it takes more than 24 hours....I said I'd try.

  • i don't know if anyone is still following this thread but i'll add my 2 cents.

i say "i started." i actually got to say this today, what fun.

we also say that i am "down for maintaince" like an amusement park ride. i think we both get a kick out of that one.

  • i forgot to mention i have a guy friend that calls it red baron week.

  • I am also enjoying this thread.  Lots of nice terminology I will have to work in.  Right now I'm just boring and say "period."  DH won't even talk about it, he gets embarassed.

But I have to say, I don't think he would ever call it his enemy.  I think we both breathe a little sigh of relief when I get it.  One more baby-free month!

  • I say period when I'm talking to girls... I have said the rag thing when talking to my cruder friends (male or female)... I used the crimson tide as a joke after Clueless came out.  I don't think DH and I really ever call it anything... I tend to get horny a couple of days before, so I might tell him this is his last chance for the next week.  He has this cute way of asking permission before sex, so if I have my period I just say, "not till Sunday..." I guess sometimes he'll ask if it's "that time".  We've been together for a while, so I think he's just become aware of my cycle and doesn't need to ask.

  • Mine just says "oh, are you bleeding?".  So, yeah, he refers to it as bleeding.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Oh, and I'm "broken" any time I can't have sex for any reason, headache, period, bruised...I honestly hurt myself on the cross bar of my bike a couple weeks ago. Not pleasant.

  • we both either say "started" or just refer to it as a period. I think DH says started more than period, but i've heard him use both.

BUT, I am on experimental medicine for my endometriosis that controls my period to one week every six months, so i almost never have to refer to it!

  • I'm confused about the broken thing.

Mostly what confuses me is the idea that getting it means you're "not broken". Does that mean you're broken if you're knocked up?

  • I thought you can still do the deed while pregnant (at least for a good portion of it), so no, pregnancy =/= broken.  Broken is essentially the equivalent of pp being "closed for maintenance".

haha this just totally made my night.  We also refer to it as being "broken" not in a sense that my body is not normal but in a sense that typically when you're bleeding it's because you're hurt and thus broken... It does offend some people though, one of my best friends was appalled and I totally get why but it's a habit now and I dont even realize I'm saying it.

  • i just plainly call it my period... David calls it "out of commission" hahaha
  • we don't really call it anything. if DH wants some i'll just say "I can't". he gets it. if we were having a conversation about it we'd probably just say period. we're boring about it.
