At the last minute I think we're going to add a DJ to our reception in November (we're having it a month after our destination wedding, so we were originally only going to have a dinner).
I contacted most of the names I've seen mentioned on the Knot Board (Brian Childs, Maize Music, VP DJs, DJ Toad), and all of them are available for our date. I'm not from Cincinnati so I haven't been to any weddings with any of these DJs... are there any you can recommend (or recommend to stay away from)? Nemar Maize isn't available that day, and I can't afford Toad, if that makes a difference in recommending those companies.
Thanks for any help you Nesties can provide!
Re: DJ recommendations?
I think Brian Childs did a great job with my wedding. Not only is he wonderfully nice, he stuck to my play/do-not-play list, and was very affordable.
*Just editing to add that Brian charged me $400 and there wasn't a time limit. He books one gig a night and he stays until it's over with no addl cost. We didn't add lighting options but I think he has them available.
I used Party Pleasers and I did something similar to you, in I booked him last minute because my DH was going to have his buddy DJ for us and after meeting him and seeing his list...there was NO way I was doing that! So... his normal package of $999 he gave me for $549 because it was last minute and they were still open.
They did an excellent job for me! They even threw in some extra lighting at no charge!
Love, love, love DJ Toad. ?You should schedule a meeting with him. ?He is very professional and has been DJing since before I was in college (um...at least 10 years?) He did a fabulous job at our wedding. ?He took charge and was great on the mic. ?
??
Brodiesmom, I'd like David's contact information... might as well check him out!
Brian Childs has gone up in price--he quoted me $595 (so did Maize Music). ?DJ Toad has a $600 package, but it's another DJ, not him (he charges $1200... way too much for me). ?VP DJs is $450 for four hours, $500 for five. ?My parents offered to cover the DJ so I'm trying to be even more frugal with their money than I was with mine! ?I've also had someone suggest DJ Victim.
After we met with several DJs and just didnt like their personality or style, we got lucky and found Quality Sounds DJs. Brad was great! He was very calm and knew exactly what he was doing. I was very picky when it comes to wedding vendors, but I trusted him completely. http://www.kissdjs.com/ Brad's cellphone is 513-659-9293. His prices were great!
If you want any more information, let me know.
We went with DJ Phil, who works for/with DJ Toad, but was a little less expensive. He was amazing. I had seen him DJ at one of my friend's weddings and I really liked the music he played and the fact that he wasn't on the mic all night (I've seen some DJs who really like to talk...).
We met with him before the wedding and gave him an idea of the kind of music we wanted. He had our dance floor full the entire night and a lot of people commented on how much they loved the music at our wedding. He was great!
