Please--Decorating HELP!

Hubby & I decided to put a TV in room about a year ago. I know that it can be bad to have a TV in your bedroom, but sometimes (working nights) it helps to have the "background" noise when falling asleep in the AMs.

Anyways, I have been looking for the perfect "thing" to put under this TV that is mounted to the wall. The trouble is, its in the doorway, so I don't really want anything super-wide or bulky. But it needs to be big enough for the DVD player.

I love the dark color of our furniture. We purchased it from Pottery Barn, back when I did some seasonal work for them. But their console tables are a bit large and spendy.

So, anyways, here are so PIPs! I know that there are a TON of crafty, talented nesties here...so who better to turn to?

Re: Please--Decorating HELP!

  • I'd probably just get a chest of drawers - like a narrower, taller dresser.  I don't know otherwise.

I love your gallery wraps above your bed!  Where'd you order them?  I think I might want to get those.

  • what about something like this?image

  • We have a similar setup in our bedroom - tv in front of the bed. We have a flatscreen tv but we didn't mount it on the wall. We have it set on top of a dresser drawer similar to this. Our bedroom set is in espresso. I am sure you will be able to find furnitures in dark wood similar to your bed. Check Crate and Barrel, West Elm or Ikea!

  • Haha, this must be a new addition.

But, do you think it would be too overbearing? Considering that its in the doorway, distance from foot of bed, etc.?

  • I personally don't think so. Do you have the exact dimensions of this drawer? Measure it and see where it stops and what the distance is from your bed and door.

I love decorating. I just started my blog and document the stuff we're doing in our house :-).

  • Boo! I didn't scroll the picture all the way to thr right! lol. I just now saw the distance from the wall to the foot of the bed. I think you have a lot of room for the dresser. Just make sure it's not wide enough that it will touch the door.
  • I think that a dresser or shorter type of armour would look good.  You have alot of room between the bed and wall.

The reason I suggested armour is so that you could hide the dvd player and the cords.

Beautiful bedding - I love it!

  • Hm, if you *only* need it as something to fit the DVD player on, the first thing that came to mind was a wall shelf, something you can get easily at Ikea. Don't know if you wanted something more to fit more things in though, but given that your doorway is right there, I think a wall shelf might work if you just wanted to have a DVD there...

    Something like this:

...which I found on this blog (items also from Pottery Barn! but from 2008 =P so they may not sell it anymore). Heh, this shelf happens to have speakers built in too, if you want an extra boost from your TV =P But I don't know if the quality of the speakers are any good...

  • Ooh, love the shelf idea too! Will have to see if its still available and if its wide enough to fit a DVD player..

Christine: I actually just got the pics printed on canvas through costco.com. I was pretty happy with the quality and pricing. I know that mpix.com makes some nice gallery wraps as well!

  • I think something like a long, narrow hallway table (sometimes called console tables) might work. They're specifically designed to go up against the wall, under an object (usually a mirror or a painting, but a TV would work too), in narrow spaces. You could put whatever you want on it - books or photos, etc. Something like one of these:

  • Lisa took my suggestion!

  • I was also going to say a wall mounted shelf that can hold the DVD player and maybe store some DVDs.  Then you don't have to worry about walking into anything right infront of the door.

I really like this idea you had.  It would really ground the room I think.  Just make sure your not running into it when you open the door.  If that's the case I would go with Lisa's suggestion which was my first thought.

BTW...I lover your bedding and the pictures over your bed!  Are those canvas prints?  Where did you get those done?  Very fun!
