umm, why do we live in NJ?

I was just on the money matters board and someone posted a picture of the house they just bid on...can't remember which state....but I was thinking it had to be atleast 500,000...NOPE...it was 230,000 and it was huge and beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Re: umm, why do we live in NJ?

  • yes, but how far do they live from the beach, NYC, and Philly?  ;)
  • Very True, but I'm still amazed what houses are worth in other states and how cheap their taxes are....if only you could get the best of both worlds
  • I would give up Philly & NYC to get a bigass house for what it costs around here.  I keep trying to talk my H into moving, but he won't leave the area.
  • I just saw something on the news last night about some of the cheapest places to live. I'm not sure what the areas were like in towns I never heard of Ohio but the median prices being closer to 100 grand made me sick.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • I know isn't it nuts!!!  We would never leave NJ either b/c all of are family is here but we keep saying that if we could get everyone to come with us we would :)   We had a friend move to OK and they a huge house for under 200,000 and their taxes were like 1500 a year!!  I'm in the Pitman/Glassboro area and paying over 5,000 :( and that's cheap for gloucester county.  My poor parents are paying almost 8,000 and they don't have any kids in the school district.

I just don't understand what we have that they can justify the expenses....I always watch those home shows on HGTV and when I see people looking for homes in the 200,000 price range and I see what they can get I'm in shock b/c we paid more then that and live in a bungalow and they are getting shown 4 bedroom homes with inground pools and HUGE kitchens.

  • Agree!!  Vorrhees Taxes = Outrageous!  But I love NJ :)

  • I could never leave the great Philly area. It's a different breed of people in the midwest and the south. I don't think we would fit in too well, plus I love being so close to the shore!

Taxes are a b--ch, but the schools in NJ are better then a lot of those other states.

  • I'm originally from the Mid-west, and I couldn't agree more.  Friends of mine just built a 4 bedroom 3 bath house with a huge kitchen for $175,000 on three acres.

The prices here are ridiculous, I refuse to buy anything.

  • At least we don't live in LA... some of those condos go for for $250,000+ Can you imagine?!
  • I think home prices are normal here for Northeast. You have to factor in that those states with cheaper real estate also have much lower salaries. It's all relative.

The taxes however are a different story! They suck.

  • Keep in mind that the houses in the middle of no where really don't offer too many good jobs around.  That may be all you could afford based on the salaries out there.

    At least this is true!

So many other good points. No matter what I'll prob never leave the state.
