Anyone doing this anytime soon? I'm starting to look for an attorney to help us with this (particularly with setting up a living trust and creating wills) and when posting on my local board and The Bump local board, I haven't gotten any responses. Admittedly, those other boards aren't very active but I thought at least people with kids would be thinking about this kind of stuff as well as anyone that owns a home.
Re: estate planning
I had a trust set up before I was married as I owned my own home and wanted to have everything easy to take care of if something should happen to me. MH and I know we need to do this ASAP - now that we're married my old trust is no longer valid. But between our properties and the fact that we've got 2 kids, we need to get it going.
I used an attorney to set mine up previously and it was relatively inexpensive. She also changed the deed to my house for me to be in the name of the trust, which was great to not have to deal with. She also printed out all of the letters to change your bank accounts to put in your trust name. I honestly don't remember how much it was since I did it probably 7 years ago, but I know it wasn't much.
I've been trying to get recs for an attorney from friends but been striking out there too...there's a company that advertises on The Bump, PersonalFamilyLawyer.com, that looks promising. They even offer a free consultation (valued at $750) plus $250 off their flat-fee services...I really like that it's a flat fee and not charged hourly.

ditto Kini - get a referral from your local bar assoc or check out the state bar's website, they may have a special site for attorneys that specialize in estate planning.
It's unfortunate you haven't had much luck with local recommendations b/c I think that is the best way to find a lawyer.
The one you mention that is advertising on the bump makes me a little nervous because the initial consult really shouldn't be $750 (even in a large metro area) so I think they are kind of doing a little shady false advertising. Like Kini said, estate lawyers usually opperate on a flat fee basis anyways. MH works in the same building as the "go-to" estate guy in our area and has taken on a few of that guy's clients or helped on specific research projects and I know the typical services you are hoping to get are always taken on a flat fee basis.
They will let you know if you have anything unique that may make it more expensive or if there is anything you are requesting that they may have to take on an hourly fee basis (this is VERY odd and generally only comes up when a person is on their 3rd or 4th marraige with lots of stuff to wrap up before they can start anew)
Once you get a few call around and see if you hit it off with a particular office and ask for their prices and what it includes. They should have all that info ready to go for you, and (at least around here) most initial consults are free, but really you could accomplish the same thing over the phone just by explaining what you are looking for and getting a cost estimate.
I just checked out the website. It looks like individual offices just use PFL as kind of an advertising site. If you wanted to stick with a lawyer you saw on their page you might want to just directly call the attorney/office that is local to you and request their rates b/c they are probably different than whatever this national ad website is offering.
