I'm a football widow.

As much as I love fall, I kind of hate the fact my hubs goes MIA for the next 16 weeks. When he's not watching it on TV as a fan, he's off covering high school and college football games for his job as a sports writer. Right now he's covering a college game and wont't be home until 8 tonight.

Any other football widows in the crowd? How do you deal?

Re: I'm a football widow.

  • I would be if I hadn't given in years ago to being his football cohort.  We spend all day Saturdays watching football. Tonight we'll be at the UT/Tech game. Our seats are near Bevo, so keep an eye out for us!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I'm a football widow. DH loves it. he watches it all.weekend.long. His favorite team is Ohio State and I always watch their game with him but I can't watch all the other games.  Last weekend I cleaned and organized our apartment to avoid football.  This weekend I may go shopping.
  • I have no idea why my reply DD :(??

  • I have also became a fellow football junkie. I am not AS serious as he is, but I like to watch. We are Georgia fans, but they don't play till 7:45, so while hubs is watching the games right now I baked cookies, made a Mexican dip, and and now nesting!

  • I really wish I had the sports watching gene. I've tried to learn, and I get the "thrill" of football, and why people do it, but I'm so slow to catch on to the mechanics of the game.

angelfire, I did see your post before it disappeared. :) I guess I could do something worthwhile while DH is working, but then I'd lose my ability to *** about my boredom. :) I cleaned the bathroom and am now thinking about when I'll take a nap. Big day, big day.

  • Cleaning the bathroom is a great accomplishment! I procrastinate on that chore big time ;)

+ totally living vicariously through you re: your nap time. Enjoy the time to yourself while you have it!!! Seriously. I think I have permanent dark circles from lack of sleep.

  • Ok, mine is STILL not home and it's not even football-related!!! I would be cooler if it were I think!! Damn work.
  • Sorry, angelfire. :(

Mine's home watching sports in the bedroom (go figure). We supposedly have plans to grab a drink.

  • mamie I'm sorry for you and all those other football widows out there...but I can only sympathize so much as I'm a football freak!  I love watching football w/DH and many of the couples in our circle of friends get into it as well.  DH and I are often sad after the Superbowl!  I was excited in Aug when pre-season started!!

Try watching again - the guys have cute bums and are so stupid running into each other.  That's how I first got into it as I thought it was ridiculous how much they crashed into each other...but the more I got to understand the game, the more I loved it!  And, this one is a lot more fun to watch than some of the other sports!

  • You're so right, barb! I have tried to learn the game rules every year, but I don't feel like I'm making any progress. I'm still confused on the 3nd down thing. I even get excited for football season to start. Everyone is just so darn happy and animated -- plus it's a fabulous excuse to drink beer and eat junk food. :)
