Relocating to Dallas(West Plano) from Seattle, any advice?

Hi ladies,

My name is Cassie. My husband, Dave, and I are relocating from Seattle to the Dallas area. I think we have settled with the West Plano area, but we are going off word of mouth, so if this isn't a good area let me know. I would love as much advice, suggestions etc you can give me. We are not unfamiliar with moving, but unfamiliar with Texas. We have no children, just fur babies. We were told about Carrolton, Frisco, and Plano, since those are all near the his new job. Which one is better or are they all good?

I hate to be a bother. And I thank you a million times over for any type of advice or help.

  • I work in W Plano, live in Allen and love it!  Plano is one of the 10 best cities in the US to raise a family according to some magazine (I forget which).  Those are all great areas to live in.
  • I live in North west Plano and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! :)
  • West Plano is definitely a great area!

  • I live in Fort Worth so I am not that familiar with those areas, but just wanted to say good luck - I lived in Seattle for three years and was just visiting friends over Labor Day weekend.  DFW is a fun area!

  • I loveeeee Seattle! Plano is nice but is very different from Seattle. It's definitely the suburbs, lot's of families and such. I'm more of a city girl so I live closer to downtown Dallas. Good luck with your move and welcome to Texas!

  • What are you looking for in your location?  Nightlife, lower concentration of kids since you don't have any, etc.?  West Plano is probably your best bet given those 3 areas.
  • We are just looking for a nice safe area, newer if possible. Easy access to the amenites like malls, shops etc. I love the city but I think I am ready to be in the burubs. We live in downtown Seattle right now, we deal with the craziness of that. We love the night life but we can drive to it and dont need to be immersed in it like we are now.

We can not have children, so we dont need a big house, but enough room to entertain with plenty of room. We are amazed what we can get for the money. What we paid here for our town home we can get a 4000 sq ft home, pool and extras, insane!

I reallly appreciate your input. It has reaffirmed our descion. YAY!

  • It is crazy watching those shows where it shows you what you would get for the price in each market....can't think of the name....brain dead today....

    Anyway good luck and welcome!

  • Well our house sold here, in less then 72 hours, so we are headed that way with no strings attached such a relief.

I have one last question, is Frisco a good area? Seems like you can get more for you money, but is there a reason why? Sorry if I sound snobby..or anything like that.

  • Frisco is great!  My DH is interviewing for a job in Portland...so we're thinking about going your direction.  I LOVE the Dallas area and hate the thought of having to leave here!  The cost of living, sun, etc. are all better in Texas! :(  I guess it's something you adjust and get used to!
  • Frisco is a nice area....but it seems really far out to me....eventhough we live in Plano.
  • Yes, Frisco is a nice area.  It's a little further north, which is why it's a bit cheaper.  It's directly north of the western part of Plano, so I would look in both areas.  You really can't go wrong with either one.

  • Thanks again ladies for all the help, we have lots of choices there. The housing market is so different then it is here. We are coming next weekend to check house out. Cant wait
  • Hi confidenthope!

My husband and I just moved to Carrolton from Portland, OR. It's only been a couple of weeks, so I have very little information, other than WOW, it's a whole different world down here!

My husband misses the rain, but I SO don't.

The housing market is so much less expensive, which frees up some cash for eating out, so we've been scouting out all of the local restaurants. Now I'm going to have to find a gym!

Tell me if  you ladies have any restaurant recommendations or fun weekend things not to miss!

  • Yeah thats what we are finding, things are so much cheaper! For what we paid here, almost 500k for are dinky 1900 sqft town hm ,we cant get more space then we need, so now we are looking at smaller homes and half the cost and still have room to grow. LOVE IT!

I am going to miss the green prettiness of the area but not the rain! Dh is working in Carrolton, what a coincidence.
