I listed my wedding dress on craigslist under York, PA. I got a reply from this guy and I can't tell if its legit or a scam...I definately won't give out my home address. Here's the message...thoughts?
Thank you so much for your mail.I want to purchase your item for my friend as a suprise package as soon as possible before their Engagement/Wedding ceremony which is fast approaching.. She is ok with the size also read your posting and she is really happy to buy it from you .. I will be paying you through a Bank Certified check so that you can have your cash in hand before shipping the dress...I will wait for your bank to confirm and clear the check before we proceed with the shipment to my friend home address in which i will include $100 for the shipment fund via Express Mail Service{EMS OF USPS}to your asking price. I will need your full name and address with your phone number to mail the check to you as soon as possible which will get to you 3-4 days.. Kindly delete the advert of this item if my mode of payment is accepted..
Re: Anyone sell stuff on craigslist? Opinions =)
hmm.. something does not seem right with that, especially with the bank certified check....seems like they are not in this country either!
I have never gotten any message like that, and I have listed some things on Craigslist.
This is a common scam. The person sends a fake certified check for more than the amount you asked. At some point, he will ask for some of the excess money be returned to him. You take it to the bank and cash it. Soon after, the bank realizes its a fake and comes after you for the whole amount.
There's an overview here.
It's a SCAM. Please do NOT give your personal info out.
We sell stuff on Craigslist all the time and if it's over a certain dollar amount people will try to scam you and it looks just like what you are describing. Only cash and make sure you try to meet people in crowded parking lots during the day, etc. Just to be safe!
