dental cleanings for dogs

Hi ladies,

Our two papillons need to get their teeth cleaned badly and I'm shopping around for the most affordable place to go. We live in Keller and would prefer to go somewhere closeby. My vet quoted me around $290 per dog. I just called the Petsmart vet clinic here and they said $189 plus a pre-op visit of about $35. Does that sound good to anyone who has had this done before? Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!

TIA!?

Re: dental cleanings for dogs

  • I haven't done it but when the pugs were at the vet in June they said teeth cleaning would be like 120 (maybe 150 at the highest? can't remember) for each of them.
  • I know this would be a bit of a drive for you, but Humane Animal Hospital in Plano does affordable teeth cleanings and we feel our dogs are in good hands there.  They've done Louis once and Gracie twice.  We do it when they get their annual vaccinations and check-up, so they only charge $99 for the cleaning.  It's normally $145 if you do it without the vaccinations.  I'm not sure if they'll charge you for an office visit in addition to that.  Something else you might be charged for depending on what the vet advises is blood work.  I think they requested that for Gracie when they cleaned hers the first time to make sure she'd do okay under the anesthesia.  I can't remember how much that was, but I think around $40.

Here's their website if you want to contact them: http://www.humaneanimalhospital.com/index.html

Hope that at least gives you an idea of what others charge.  Our former vet charged quite a bit more for teeth cleanings (and everything else) than Humane.
