Crib choices PIP

The first one is from JcPenney and got excellent ratings and is suppose to be really great quality. We have not seen it in person since all of their cribs are online only but have seen the wood colors. we would either get it in cherry or expresso.

The second choice is Babys Dream Serenity Crib we found it at a local baby shop and seen it in cherry so we would definately get it in cherry. Were a dark wood house lol. Both are around the same price and convertible as they grow.

Re: Crib choices PIP

  • So what are your likes/dislikes about each one?

I personally like the first one - it seems a bit more traditional to me (I like the size of the difference between the front and back of it, I think.)  And I like the curvy nature of it!

    Good luck picking which one!

  • I like the 1st one the best! IMO though it seems more for a girl (maybe it's the girly bedding on it). So you might change your mind if you have a boy :)

Caro got Cate's crib from JcPenney and she recommended them. We were going to go with one from there but fell in love with one from BRU.

Another bit of advice...if you get a convertable crib be sure to get the conversion kit right away. Sometimes they stop making them and you wouldn't want to wait until your child needs it to find out they don't make them anymore.

  • I also favor the first one lol because of the curves. Nick favors the second one but it was really nice in person as well. I have a book with all of the ratings about both cribs and the first one got a B and second one got an A lol. Really the grades dont mean too much to me because the B has nothing to do with safety or anything.

The second one just seems like excellent quality and wood and i cant really tell of the first one except by reading reviews since i cant see it in person. Also the biggest thing for me is the first one has a matching dresser with 7 drawers that we could put the changing pad on. The second one's dresser only has 3 drawers with changing pad on top. The second dresser i did not see in person just on the pamplet they gave me so i dont know how deep the drawers are or anything. So to me thats a big deal but nick could care less lol.

  • I like the look of the first one much better than the look of the second one.  I think my sister has the second one (or one that looks just like it) though and she said it was great.

  • I like the first one better for sure and really like it in the espresso shade it is shown in.
  • I like the first one better too.  My advice is to try to find that crib somewhere and see how it holds up to scratches.

The crib we bought David had great ratings too but the model in the store was brand new, so no scratches.  We bought the matching dressers too.  The changing table dresser is scratched from when the metal rivit on the jeans rubbed up against it.  David's footboard is also scratched from him chewing on it.

If I were to do it all over again, I would still get the same bed but buy separate "adult" dressers (meaning not the matching baby line but something similar from a regular furniture store).  Also buy the tie on teathing guard.  I found out about this way too late.

I also agree with Kristen regarding the converstion Kit.  Ours took 4+ months to get it.

  • I like the first one better because of the different heights between the front and back.  I'm sure the second one probably looks good in the darker color too.

  • Im just hoping number one can be versatile for boy and girl. I think it can its just hard to picture it without the bedding on it. However if MH is right we dont need to worry about that lol.
  • I think it's just the bedding.  It won't be a problem for it to be a boy's bed.

  • Stacy if you get the espresso color you should look into this dresser: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00067830

It's the one we got for Declan and it matches his espresso crib really well! Plus the height is perfect for putting a changing pad on top of. And the quality really surprised me for Ikea!
