Dryer Vent Cleaning

Has anyone ever had their dryer vents cleaned?  I have lived in my house 3 years and have never had it professionally done nor have I cleaned them myself (with the exception of the lint trap).  I can only imagine what is in my vents...and I'm sure my drying time would cut down if they were cleaned.  Is this something you do regularly?  Who have you had do it?  TIA!

Re: Dryer Vent Cleaning

  • We've cleaned our dryer vents ourselves.  We removed the hose and then used a brush and then a duster to get up into the vents and try to clean them out.  There are kits you can get a BB&B but you really don't need it.

It's not something we do regularly but it's good to keep it cleaned so that the dryer works more efficiently.

  • We clean ours every 6 months. (By we I mean DH). I'm not sure what he does, but IMO it is unnecessary to hire a company to do it.

  • We've lived here 3.5 years and haven't clean ours Embarrassed eek I don't even what to think about what it looks like...LOL.
  • we just had ours cleaned professionally by Dryer Vent Wizard- due to the fact that the way our vent comes out on our townhouse is awkward and hard to get to.... otherwise we would have done it ourselves and saved about $300!!   But ours has never been done either since our house was built (7 yrs ago), but it was well worth the money, we found out our major problem was a birds nest half way up the vent was clogging all the lint (that's why it was taking us 3 cycles on 80 minutes EACH to dry one load!!)  So now we are good to go, it only takes 40 minutes for one load now (what a difference!)   He also put a metal vent in ours, which is better than the plastic/ foil ones, and we got a new vent flap on the outside so the birds cant make their way into this one!  I would recommend dryer vent wizard, it was so expensive for us because of the new metal vent and the outside part- but I believe just the cleaning costs around $150.. good luck!

  • Oh and they also recommend getting it cleaned every 2-3 yrs, or he said once you notice that you are having to run your dryer longer is also a sign to have it cleaned.
  • We've never cleaned ours (we really should) but I've heard that in addition to cutting down drying time, lint build up in the dryer ducts is a fire hazard.
