Soo... the photograph shrine

I'm going through all my wedding pictures now and wondering how I'm supposed to choose just one to frame and put up on the wall. Seriously, how many am I allowed before it becomes a freaky shrine to myself (and husband of course)? 2 or 3? One big and several small? Where are they best put? Out in the public areas or in the bedroom? Where did you put yours?

Re: Soo... the photograph shrine

  • In the living roon, we opted for one big one and a few small ones around it.  I think as the years go on, the smaller ones will come down and be replaced by more current photos and the large one will stay.

In the bedroom we have 4 photos over the bed that, like the living room, will probably slowly be replaced over time.  For the time being, I figure I deserved a shrine at least for a little while....it's not like you get married every day!

  • We have one big one in our living room and it's 8x10. It used to be in our bedroom in our house but we're in a small 1-br apartment and we can't punch holes in the wall, so that's why it's in our living room now, on the fireplace mantle--no nails needed. Then, we have a small 2inch one in a pineapple frame for the dining room area, which matches our pineapple salt & pepper shaker. And we also have picture coasters with some wedding party shots/etc. Then MH has one as the background of his computer and I have another one as the background of mine =) So I guess we prefer to keep our shrines in our more personal spaces (ie. computer/bedroom) but had a small one for the dining room only and the large one is only in the living room because it has to be (instead of in the bedroom) =P

  • As many as you want!!!

Of course, I think that all of our weddings are so gorgeous, it is just like hanging fine art.  I love your siggy pic with that tree.  Certainly, images like that count as art.

If someone has a very formal wedding (like big, puffy gown, tiara and veil) and everyone in it is stiffly posed, one is enough.  If your images are diverse, hang several.

  • I may not help, we've almost been married for 2 years and I only have a small 4x7 photo and it's not even one that I love....I've yet to decide which ones to enlarge, etc.  I guess once we are in our forever home I will decide.

I really want to do on of those canvas prints...did you look into that?

  • We loved all our photos, but there was one in particular that we just adored - we have that one (just the 4x7 print that the photog gave us) in a frame between the kitchen and dining areas. Otherwise, I still haven't done anything - no album, no prints, nothing!
  • We actually did a series of five black and whites in the family room with matching frames and custom mats.  One is pretty traditional, one is us on the beach, and the other three are more abstract (just out feet and footprints in the sand, a close up of our hands).  It WAS hard to choose, but in the end, I just picked what I thought went together and suited the room (we just re-did the room in a sort of a beach-y theme).

  • LOL. I also had the same problem!

Our surfboard photo has been up on the wall in the living room for a while.

We just recently hung up a few on the wall by the staircase.

I also have potrait photos of DH & I that I hung up above the headboard in the master bedroom (sorry, no photos). That's about it. The rest, I have it in our digital frame that is in the living room :-).

Whoops, almost forgot, i have this little one that is sitting beside the Marriage Prayer (Both in Hawaiian & English) that SIL gave to us.

Ah Ericka, we have the same marriage prayer.  Its in our kitchen right in front of the sink.  MH put it there so we were "forced" to look at it everyday!!  :)

Too funny! Ours is also in the kitchen! lol. The door to the right is our pantry and in front of that is the sink lol.

  • We have one on our dresser in the bedroom.  And we have a photo collage on the family room wall (2 -  8x10, 3 - 5x7, 2 - 4x6).  I've changed them once because I couldn't decide which pictures to put in there.

I hung it as soon as we got pregnant because I wanted time to enjoy our wedding photos before the collage was filled with baby pics!!  That's when I hustled and got our wedding album done as well.

  • We registered at Pottery Barn and were fortunate to receive lots of picture frames and some photo ledges to display them.

We have an 11x17 on a very high shelf (vaulted ceiling) and two shelves underneath with more frames lined up on them, in a variety of sizes and colors.  Like PP said, some of the photos are of us, some of the wedding party and some detail shots.

I suppose it kinda does look like a shrine to ourselves!  But I don't really worry about that.  It was the happiest day of our lives and we love to look at the photos and be reminded of it!

  • I made a photo wall down in our basement above our fireplace (pics in bio)  I think it's 2 - 11 x14, 2- 5x7 & 2- 4x6 in different size frames.  I also have our family pic in our living room and a couple throughout the house.  Sometimes I think it's too much, but right now I don't care ;)  We don't have a baby yet and I figured I might want to enjoy them before that happens.  I'm also considering doing 3 canvas ones and print them in Sepia when we redo our master bedroom to put above the bed so that way when we phase the other pics out at some point, I can still seceretly enjoy them in our room ;)

  • Okay, then I'm not going to feel guilty about putting pics of ourselves up! Thanks guys.
  • I think wedding pics are neat (especially journalistic HI wedding ones) so I never think twice about how many photos other people have in their homes.  We have an arrangement of 4 frames in our living room + our signature mat.  Those include ones of our family too - so it's more like a wedding display instead of a shrine to the 2 of us  :)

We also have 2 larger photos from our informal TTD in our bedroom.  The people that have seen those seem to love them but I wouldn't display them outside of the bedroom just because I think they are romantic and personal.

Here's a sample of the text. SIL gave us a copy that is carved on koa (?) wood.

  • we have 9 photos in 3 frames (4, 3, 2) on the wall in the stairwell up to the bedroom and office - so not a lot of traffic up the stairs except for us.  it also has a variety of detail shots, one of our family, and one with our wp, so it's not all just us.  we have a pretty large caricature of us (wedding gift from a friend at pixar) above the fireplace, and MH insists that is enough - even though just this morning, i was teasing him about how we don't have any wedding photos on the mantel. Smile  none on the walls or anything either, where guests would normally see it.  i think we're both sensitive to not wanting to have photos of ourselves everywhere, MH moreso than i am.  but i am seriously considering doing some canvas ones in the bedroom.  I've seen enlarged photos above the bed before, but i like the canvas ones even more.  we'll see.  and i'll probably sneak up a wedding photo somewhere in the living room too...some day... • We received 4x6 proofs (like 2500+) from our photog, so I chose my favorites and loaded them into black with white matting collage frames (I bought 2 from Target and 3 from Kohl's) and they now artfully hang in our hallway that leads from the bathroom to the bedroom.  Last year, for our anniversary, I bought an Indigo Sky print and framed it similarly and added it to the montage.  We have one 8x10 framed print from our day-after shoot in our room.  It's on my nightstand.
