...to not wear a full suit to a second-round interview?
Last week - before I left to visit my sister in Bellingham - I had a job interview in NY. I met with the woman whose job I would be replacing, and that went really well so she asked me to come back a little later in the day to meet with two of the three principals of the company. That must have gone well as by the end of the day she emailed to ask me to come back to meet with the head of the company (he was out of town the day I was there) as soon as I was back in town. (This interview is scheduled for Thursday.)
Problem is, I only have two suits, one of which is more of a winter suit, and very dressy, and the other one is a summer suit, which I wore to the first round interview. Nobody in the office was dressed up (jeans and nice shirts, basically). So, do you think it would be alright for this second interview if I just wore a nice pair of dressy grey slacks and a black button down shirt, with black pumps? I don't need to buy another jacket, do I? I value your fashion advice, ladies!
Re: Do you think it's ok....
CONGRATS ON THE GOOD NEWS ANNA!!!! That's awesome I had no idea.
So if everyone in the office wears jeans then I'd say thay the outfit you described would be fine for the second interview. When I received interview coaching we were told that you should dress only one level above the office dress code.
HTH and GOOD LUCK on Thursday.....fingers and toes crossed for you.
Agreed!
Yeah, I would think so too -- but only if other peeps in the office are in jeans. (If it was a slacks and button-down shirt type of office I would definitely wear a suit). Maybe you could dress up your planned outfit, in addition to the black pumps, by wearing a nice necklace and/or earrings too. I agree with pp that the point is to look crisp and professional.

I agree!
My vote would be like this:
1st choice - the winter suit with a nice blouse
2nd choice - a nice, structured dress or pencil skirt and blouse
3rd choice - the grey slacks, but not the black top. Sorry, it just sounds like something appropriate for a funeral. I love grey slacks with a white blouse. A white blouse looks crisp, clean and confident.

Wow - thanks for all of the input everyone! It's tricky because a lot of our stuff is still in storage, and since I am flying back late late Wednesday night and sleeping over at my bff's before the interview on Thursday I won't even have a chance to get to my closet at my ILs let alone our storage space. So I am working with a limited repertoire! I have the shoes and pants with me but am planning on buying a button down shirt in the morning before the interview. I would really rather not buy a jacket since we are really tight on money right now and judging by everyone else in the office I would not use it if I got this job. Pretty much everyone was in jeans (including the second in command of the company). The first woman who interviewed me was actually in flip-flops! So I definitely felt more than one level dressed than everyone else. I may investigate the jackets when I go shopping though--I do feel funny going to an interview without one. If I can find one reasonably priced I might go for it. I think I'm going to hit up H&M first.
And thanks for the nestie vibes on the job interview! It would be working with one of the biggest indie film producers and would pay quite well so that would sure be what I need right now!
