Purse auction website??

Anyone familiar with these, like pennypurses.com?  Is it a scam?  What gives?

Re: Purse auction website??

  • Yeah, I'd bet the bags on there are fakes!  They look like it just by glancing at the website.
  • DH isn't here right now, but he was telling me about these types of websites (not specifically for purses though).  I think they are authentic purses, and IIRC, the way these sites make their money is that they charge a small fee (50 cents or so) for each bid.  So if you have an auction that ended at $9.52 (like the one on their main page)...that means there were 952 bids on the purse.  Multiply that by .50, and the auction made $476 on the purse.  Make sense?

It looks like this site is slightly different...you buy "bids" in bulk packages, but I can't find anywhere that says how much they cost.  I'm assuming the principle is the same as what I described above.

  • This site has a fairly detailed explanation of the math involved from a different penny auction site, Swoopo...

  • i am convinced i'm addicted to purses and for the thrill of finding a steal, sometimes for real! I have mastered NYC canal street and have come home with some authentic, one was appraised up to $2500 and I paid $100.  not everything i buy i real but it looks very close.  The new website i've been using is ioffer.com  it's a bit crazy but you can buy everything.  it's out of China and i've gotten some real and some very close but rarely pay over $100.  I just bought uggs for $55 and my mom got a burberry trench for $145 and the quality is impressive, all of the tags, stamps, boxes, dust bags.....  I've had my critics but again i've had a few things confirmed real and for me i don't care i love to buy too much to pay a grand for everything!
