:::chrysallys:::

Hi there=)

I noticed you are from California!  Me too! We moved from San Diego to Alberta, 6 years ago.

Re: :::chrysallys:::

  • Hey! I'm from the Monterey Peninsula.May I ask what brought you to Canada? How was the transition for you? Do you get back to the states?

    We moved back because my husband's family is here (he was born in Kitchener), my SD is in her first year at U of Guelph, and the economy sucked for us in Cali (dual layoffs).

  • I love the Monterey area.  Ugh...sorry about the layoffs.  My DH's family business is here.  So, we moved up here.

    The transition was pretty good.  Somedays it's still doesn't feel like home.  That is mostly because none of my family is here and that's hard.  But it's a great country to be in.  We get back to the states about 3 times per year.  I am hoping that will be more before my kids are in school.

    How was the move here for you?  Are you getting your residency here?  I went throught the whole permanent residence visa hoopla=P

    I wish you the very best here!

  • I catch myself referring to Monterey as "home" as well, but I guess it will always be home. After all, I spent 37 years there.

    The move has been hard getting everything packed and now unpacked with a 2 month old. And it's hard leaving everything and all of my family behind.

    I will be going for my permanent residence. The whole thing is very confusing. I may need to pick your brain about that. We also need to register my son. Ahhh the hoops, right?

  • I know what you mean.  Thankfully, we are from places that are vacay destinations;)  Makes for a good place to go "home" to.

    Did you guys buy a house there?  The housing prices here in Calgary are pretty decent right now.

    If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.  I was on a hiatus from here, but I think I will be back for a bit.

    Congrats on your little one=)

  • Thanks for the congrats. He is my joy.

    We are renting right now but expect we'll be able to get our own in a couple years. We never would have been able to get one in Cali.

  • He is super cute!  I love his little gummy grin.

    I don't know some people afford the COL in some of the states right now.
