My 5th period class (7th grade social studies) just annoyed me to no end today. All the kids are really chatty (well, the whole school is...its middle school!) and I have 5th period right after lunch, so they are wired.
But today they could not calm down, and it got to the point that when I was trying to do a quick review of yesterday's info to seque into today, several kids were telling me I was wrong and then the whole class just kind of erupted. yuck.
I just walked over to my corner desk, told them to read the lesson on their own, and to expect a quiz at the end of the period. I then accidently deleted all of my first period grades out of my online gradebook!! I am hoping the website that hosts it can somehow recover all my grades for me!
Hopefully tomorrow goes smoother.
Re: Ugh, so annoyed
LOL!!! Thank you!
I had to restrain myself yesterday. the VP came in the room to tell the kids to line up outside; The drug dog was there to sniff out the room. This kid started barking once the VP stopped talking. I wanted to die!
That sounds like an awful day. But yay for giving them a quiz. LOVE IT!
Oh, and I really hope you get your grades back. That sucks. If you can't...what's the other option?
My only real option is to start their grades over from today, 4 weeks into the grading period. I have passed back most of their work and all of their tests and highly doubt that most of the kids hung on to it (even though I told them to). Not the best option, especially considering I mailed out D/F notices yesterday, but pretty much the only one right now.
I am dumb.
Thanks!
I did just think of one idea. Whenever a kid forgets their HW, they have to fill out a pink slip, naming the assignment and why they don't have it. I file them all in their folders, which I keep in my room.
I could just input all the missing work and give everyone else full credit on the assignments, and not worry about the 1-2 tests they've taken. hmmmm. I am giving the website until Fri to email me before I make a decision.
I am praying for the day they bring paddling back to CA schools!
Janet, I had the same problem with my kids on Monday when I was trying to do a test review. I gave up and told them that if they want to fail, it's their problem. "Don't come crying to me when you get an F. I will still get my paycheck if you get an F. If you don't care about your grade, I am not going to waste my time caring about it either." Then I just went over to my desk and started organizing it.
Ugh. This is why I prefere kids under 12.
Sorry about the grades. That really sucks.
I had an organizing my desk moment today too. My class is supppper chatty. I had left the room, walked to my desk, and even sat down before they realized I was missing. Then they started to shush each other and say that I was looking at them. I wish they would have done that when I was at the front of the room.
Sorry you had a bad day Janet.
