for a 'cook-off' with my family. someone's already doing burgers, chips/dip, fruit/dip. It can be on a kettle small charcoal grill, or even a crockpot. It has to be a main dish and we can bring other sides or desserts if we want. No chili or grilled chicken breasts. Any good ideas?? 6 adults and 1 child.
Re: Need tailgating recipes
I ran across this a while ago. Hope it helps inspire you. Good luck!

Beer brats. Winners in our family hands down. Boil brats ahead of time (can do the night before for best results) with onions. We use regular Budweiser, but whatever beer you would prefer, we've been told these have the best flavor. Put brats into container, with onions, put beer mixture with brats and let soak until you are ready to cook.
My grandma's and I have a debate over how many parts water to beer. I do six cans beer to 1/2 can water if I'm making 2 packages of brats. But definately make sure you have enough beer to cover the brats. Better flavor.
I have an awesome recipe for chili. When H's friends find out I'm making it, they try to find ways to invite themselves over:
Slow-Cooked Chunky Chili:
1lb ground beef
1lb bulk pork sausage
4 cans (16oz each) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
2 cans (14-1/2 oz each) diced tomatoes, undrained
2 cans (10z each) diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper chopped
1 envelope taco seasoning
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
In a skillet, cook beef and sausage over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 5 qt slow cooker. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until the vegetables are tender. Yield 3 quarts (12 servings)
(Recipe taken from Taste of Home's Slow Cooker Favorites cookbook)
So do you boil the brats first with the onions and then add the beer? Or do you marinate the brats in beer first? How long should they sit in the mixture before grilling?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, I've just never cooked them, so I have no idea.
