Did this happen to anyone else?

Last night, around 1:30am, our house phone rang. We didn't reach it in time...it ended up being a recording from the sheriff's office that a missing child was found or something like that.

I was so mad about this, because I was in like a deep sleep, and that panicked me into thinking it was an emergency! UGH!

Re: Did this happen to anyone else?

  • not to us even though we are in that area, but i heard about it this morning and they found the kid who was like 11. not sure what he was doing or where he was.
  • Yep. Twice. At 1:42 and 1:57. I thankfully didn't hear it, but I saw the missed calls on my caller id this morning.
  • Yup it happened to us.  And I was livid!
  • 1:53 for me. It was a 12 yr old boy that was missing. They found him around 5:30 this morning.

  • It did not happen to us but I saw the headline on the Advocate's website that one of those calls helped them find the kid.  But that doesn't make sense if they were calling to tell you he'd been found.

Anyway, if it did help find him safe then I think it's ok.  But I'd be annoyed if they called just to tell me some random kid had been found.  As overjoyed as I am that he is alive and well.

  • I didn't listen to the message again this morning...maybe they said "has not been found"? I just remember them saying child...found...and I remember being pissed and not able to go back to sleep easily.
  • What I don't understand is why there are not releasing more details about it.  The news said that he was found early this morning on bluebonnet, but that's it.  It just seem strange that they would send out a mass call for someone missing for a few hours without providing any details.  The message didn't have any descriptive features about the missing boy or where he was last seen.
  • I got one on my cell phone, and D did as well.

It doesn't upset me, because those calls usually help. If my child were lost/kidnapped I surely wouldn't care that I woke up some people. The first 24 hours of a missing child are the most important...

  • ... and the news made the story sound like an apology for the call rather than a missing persons report.

Then the kid decides to run away again.
