Re: Best Cold Remedies?

  • I really like Coricidin. It clears me right up. Also, take an expectorant like Mucenex to break up and get rid of all the built up mucus. This will help long term vs something that clears you up for a few hours (like my beloved coricidin)
  • Advil Cold and Sinus is my new favorite, especially if you're congested and can't breathe.

  • I swear by the fizzy Airborne tablets.
  • Vick's Dayquil used to be amazing before they removed the pseudoephedrine from it....Dayquil still isn't too bad.  BIL took Theraflu this weekend and said it worked well for him...I'm also a fan of Sudafed.
  • Lots of rest and fluids.  2000mg of vitamin C every two waking hours.
  • I post this all the time and I don't think anyone has ever followed it, but here ya go anyway...

Kyolic Garlic tablets. The aged garlic extract. Take about 1000mg (you can take more) 2 or 3 times a day. You'll be healthy real fast.

It's in pill form so you won't smell. I've been taking it for 3 years and I've had 2 colds in that time - both at points of incredibly high stress. I used to get colds every other week.

  • Zee, totally trying this. Can you get it at any grocery store or is it sold in health-food stores?
  • PUMP the water into your system!  Stay away from dairy as it can make you more mucus filled.

EmergenC drink...take a couple a day when sick (can find in 'natural' sections at grocery stores, comes in little packets that you mix with water).

Vitamin A - can only take for a week (as too much can be toxic) but it helps boost your immune system.

Also - have you heard of a nasal rinse?  You can do it with a Netti Pot or just a nasal saline bottle (I use the one put out by AYR)...it sounds so gross but it works wonders to clear out all the junk in your sinuses.  It feels wonderful and helps you breathe!!

The combo of these things plus a bit of sunlight and rest will do you good.  You'll be feeling great very soon after!
