Any fellow kidney-stone sufferers?
Kidney stones are the reason I know I can most likely make it through a natural birth.
I have one (or more) right now, and I am in so much pain. It's taking all I can to just breathe through the pain. I used to go to the hospital, but they just give drugs. It's not worth it anymore. I get kidney stones about three times a year. Last time I had 8 stones, ridiculous.
The only thing I am glad about is the pain only lasts about 5-8 hours, and once I start chugging the water it starts to help. Any other unlucky people out there that get these little monsters? If so what do you do?
Re: Any fellow kidney-stone sufferers?
This is legal advice. Circa 2011
Yep, it took about 3 days to pass, and some of them wouldn't pass so they had to do the lithotripsy thing to break them up.
The reason I get them so bad is because I have a "horseshoe" kidney. My kidneys didn't separate for whatever reason, so I have two kidneys but they're attached, making one big one, in the shape of a horseshoe. Not sure why exactly it makes me more prone to stones, but it does, and it blows. When I get them I just have to keep my mind focused on other things, drink tons of water, use a heating pad, and sleep.
Oh, Ali. I bow down to you. I cannot fathom dealing with kidney stones 3 times a year!
Sweet Jesus, woman. You are my hero.
Wow! 3 times a year??? I would die. I am SO sorry.
I have also had kidney stones, 5 times total. I have been in the hospital too, had lithotripsy and some other procedure, I think basket extraction (?). I also had what they think was a kidney stone while I was pregnant. They couldn't see a stone, but I had a blockage. I ended up having to get a Nephrostomy Tube put into my kidney while pregnant. Umm.....if you don't know what that is, its a tube coming out of your back draining your urine into a bag.
I have no words to describe how horrendous it was.
I'm really sorry your are dealing with that right now. I really feel bad for you. I hope it passes soon....
I hope I don't end up having to have one of those tubes, sounds miserable. Apparently when you're pregnant its very easy to get kidney stones, so those who have already had them are even more likely to get them during pregnancy, which could be why it got so bad for you. Next week I go to my doctor, and I am going to bring up this kidney stone issue to see if there is anything else I can do.
I know she's going to tell me to drink more water, but I already drink over 70 oz a day, I don't know how much more I can shove down, haha.
