Prepare your own baby food

I used this website awhile back. I think the real key is making large batches. We order C food in bulk (diapers.com), so I didn't make more than a few servings each time. Since you can freeze all the food you prepare, I'm guessing the quantity shouldn't matter.

It was super easy to do, but if you're time is already stretched adding food & clicking "submit order" is a tad easier. Wink

Re: Prepare your own baby food

  • I enjoy making the girls food! I made a big batch of peas today! :-) Easy, healthy, yummy, cheap!!!
  •  I didnt see the questions below about baby food. I think its so funny that people give me credit for making their food. Its a mess but idiot proof.  I really like this book. The websites were too confusing to me.

Pretty much just steam and puree! Ta-Da! Baby food! :-)

I really love the fact that sweet potatoes taste like sweet potatoes and peas are bright green and taste like peas! (I feel like Willie Wonka!) It really bothers me when I can't tell what is in a baby food jar or it looks funny. This way I know what they are eating. I freeze it all. I spray ice cube trays with olive oil, fill them up, put them in giant ziplock bags and once they are frozen I pop them out of the ice cube trays and into labeled zip locks. Right now the girls share 3 cubes per meal. :-) If anyone has any questions let me know. You are always welcome to come over and make some food with me!

Also, avocados are a wonderful 1st food. I just put avo in the blender with a little formula and blend until smooth. Instant baby food.

  • one of these days i will have to come over and help make food with you tiff! :-)  its a tad bit early right now...but i would love to see waht/how you do it! :-)  i'm sure its pretty simple!

  • Since Charlotte has only been on solids for a month, and most of that was just practice with rice cereal, we've started her on veggies (gerber) and pears which I made for her.  I like that website, they even have meal plans which is really cute.

Tif, have you made squash?  If so what kind do you use?  I saw zuchini and summer squash on sale at the market and wondered if those would work.

  • Yep! You can make any squash. I take the skin off though and seed it. Then I steam it and blend it. :-)
  • Thanks for the book rec Tiff. I so want to make baby food. I will have to take a look at that book.
