I need makeup help. I have a big scar on my nose from the skin cancer surgery, and in addition to the scar, my whole nose is just red (also from the surgery). I fight every day with my makeup, trying to cover it the best I can, but it never looks quite right. The heavy-duty stuff that covers the red doesn't match my skin, and the stuff that matches my skin doesn't cover. Add to that the fact that I am oily like a 16 year old since going off bcps, and my makeup is literally sliding off my face by 1:00....
I need make up that will cover the red, cover the scar, match my skin, and stay put all day regardless of my greasy-ness. And I want a pro to do it and show me how.
I never buy makeup from makeup counters but I would like to go to one and have them fix me up and then sell me their stuff. Who should I go to? I am clueless about this!
Re: Which makeup counter should I go to?
i would go to clinique. i've been using their products since i was in my teens. i like the almost make up and the oil free/balancing one and may try even better that allegedly helps to even skin tone . . .
or, go to sephora and have someone try various brands out. there is a clinique thing at the austin street sephora
?
What are you currently using to cover the scar? It sounds like you need something like this: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P12630&categoryId=S10820&shouldPaginate=true (They have different sets of palettes for different skin tones, obviously.)
I'd say Sephora, but I hesitate a bit because their customer service people are hit or miss. Some are great, but I have talked to some people there who seem to be truly clueless.
There is a Make Up For Ever store on E 12th (btwn 5th and 6th Av I think, I actually just walked by it yesterday!).
As far as department store brands, I like Laura Mercier and Lancome, but I have to opposite issue as you, as my skin is very dry!

i meant to say that sephora in fo hi is having a clinique event tomorrow - so i *think* it will be clinique staffers there (who will have more expertise on their products)
i agree that it's hit or miss with the sephora staff but i do think that sephora will give you the most options for trying multiple products at once. ?

Ever since switching to mineral makeup, I will never go back. I use Jane Iredale which is sheer to medium coverage. They also have concealers for spots that require a little something more. I went to Bigelow (near W 4th St) and worked with the counter ladies there.
I agree that Sephora could be a good place to start to try some different things. That is the first place I check when searching for new products and colors.
