Let's Talk Tats.

Tattoos.

-Do you have any?

-If so, what is the significance?

-Does your DH have any?

-If so, what is the significance??

-Don't have any but want one??

-If so, what design(s) are you thinking about??

-Don't have any and plan on keeping it that way??

Re: Let's Talk Tats.

  • To answer my own questions, I don't have any but lately have been intrigued by the idea of something small and very meaningful somewhere very hidden. Haven't thought of any further details other than that and probably will chicken out, but it's fun to dream dangerously.

My H has a navigation compass (he loves the water and boating) on his back, like a tramp stamp (he got it when he was 17 and stupid). I am not a fan of it.?

  • I don't have any. DH just got his first in the spring and is already thinking about a second. He wants me to get one with him, but I can't think of anything that I would emblazon on my body.

Here's his -- it's a cross with his grandfather's initials. His grandfather passed away 6 years ago, and they were very close.

  • I have none.  I wanted one when I was younger, but I kind of grew out of the desire. I don't know, when I was younger having a tat was a sign of being rebellious.  Now it seems more people have them then not.  For example, MIL got one a few years back, and she is the antithesis of rebellious.

DH has one - its an arm band, pretty benign.

We thought about getting one together on one of our trips, but we didn't trust our ability to find somewhere reputable in Hong Kong.  I would imagine if I got one it would be sentimental, related to a big event.

This is weird...I had dreams about getting a tat last night...I'm just remembering...

  • I have one on my right ankle. It is a cherry blossom with other free drawn flowers around it. I got it while doing my thesis in grad school. No significance really. I took a picture in of a mandala (what I was writing my thesis on) I wanted and they guy said it would have to be huge becuse of the detail. I said no thanks and got the cherry blossom.

DH does not have any and hates mine. I am thinking of getting it removed but not sure.

  • No tats for either of us. I agree with Cruella that it's just not a sign of being rebellious anymore. Everyone has them.

I won't get one because I can't think of anything I'd want to have on my body FOREVER. Also, they look cool when you first get them. But I've seen lots of older people with tattoos and 30 year old tats look AWFUL.

C feels the same way I do. But, to play the game, if he were to get one he'd get one of the sterotypical arm bands. I'd get something meaningful. Maybe my middle name (grandmother's name too) in Hebrew in a cool design. She'd jump out of her grave and smack me for getting one though.

  • I have four.

    1. Shooting star w/rainbow - right shoulder

    2. Tribal-ish design with a heart in the center - tramp stamp

    3. Lady bug - left ankle

    4. Cherries - belly/pelvis region, on the right.

I got them all when I was 18 and trying to rebel... of them, I don't love any! I wish I didn't have any at all, but now I'm stuck with them. Thankfully they're small in inconspicuous. The one on my right shoulder is absolutely terrible. Mike calls it my prison tattoo. I'm thinking of covering it up, but seeing as though I don't want any more tattoos, I'm have a hard time deciding on a coverup. And unfortunately, tattoo removal just doesn't work all that well. It leaves the skin looking scarred and muddled, which is just as bad as the tattoo, imo. DH has none, and he hates mine.

  • I really super want one!  I used to want a line drawing of a ballet dancer, since I used to be a dancer, but now I am thinking more along the lines of two Cs, since both my and DH's names start with C.  I would want it on my hip.  DH doesn't think I should get anything.

DH has the comedy/tragedy masks on his left calf.  He got the tattoo when he was in grad school (for theatre) and doesn't like it anymore.

It seems like most people on here don't like their tattoos anymore, but most of my friends have tons of tattoos and love them.  I have a friend who keeps getting what I think are really silly ones (bobby pins, a bottle of Sricha, a slice of bacon with the word "mom") but they all love them.

I'd be a bit insulted if I were the mom, like my child is calling me a pig. They are funny though...conversation starters for sure.

  • I think what has sparked my interest in a tattoo is my friend who just got a beautiful quote from an Edna St. Vincent Mallay poem for her 30th birthday. (Please note that stomach too--she's had 2 kids...AGH!!!)

Now I am coming to terms with the fact that I probably won't be an FBI agent like I always secretly hoped, so that frees me up to mark myself up a bit. Or I'm going through some sort of crisis, which is highly likely.

Mamie-I love how meaninful W's is!?

  • No tattoos for either of us. Not planning on getting one either.  There is nothing that has such a significance in my life that I would want it displayed on my body forever.
  • - I have 2, the lower back tramp stamp and a tiny one (dime-sized) on my lower belly just inside my right hip.

    - The one on my lower back is an iris that was copied from an iris painted on a bell my grandparents gave me as a child. Basically a tattoo to commemorate a cheap souvenir my grandparents brought back from  Switzerland when I was little. I got it when I was 18 and it was a quasi-rebellious move. The small one is a ladybug since they're a symbol of good luck and the name of the street I grew up on was Ladybug Way.

    - DH has none and doesn't love anything enough to get it tattooed. Not to say he'll never get one, but he has no current plans.

  • DH and I don't have any, however I want one. I think when I have kids I am going to get little footprint outlines with initials in them or something along that line.  We will see when the day comes though.

  • Neither of us have one... I really just hate tattoos and can't imagine I could ever find anything that I want now that I would still like 50  years from now and the idea of a wrinkled, saggy tattoo is just gross to me.  I'll never get one.

DH wants one - he wants to get the Louisville Cardinal mascot on his shoulder, I keep telling him not to do it.

  • not really a fan of tatoos...way too permanent!!

i can appreciate them on an artistic level, but the fact that they are FOREVER... i am way too indecisive. it would take me forever to decide what to get, then i'd probably hate it the next day.

maybe i'd get one if they only lasted for a year or something...

  • DH has a tattoo on his right shoulder of his favorite sports team. He really likes it but I don't think he'll get any more.

I don't have any tattoos and I'm not planning on getting any. I like watching shows like Miami Ink and seeing all the beautiful work they do, but I just can't think of anything I'd want on me forever

  • Neither DH or I have any, and we probably will never get any.

The only way i would do it is if I did something amazing, like won a medal in the olympics (which would never happen, but my friend and her BF both have the olympic rings and i am super jealous of their awesomeness) or overcame a giant obstacle like cancer, then perhaps i would get one.  I guess i see a tattoo as something very significant and personal--it would have to reflect something about me.

  • I have a shamrock on the back of my left shoulder and a diabetes awareness ribbon on the back of my right shoulder. I got those in particular because they are things that won't ever change. :o)

DH doesn't like tattoos. But can deal with mine. Haha.

I am planning on eventually getting a medical alert diabetes tattoo on my wrist.
